Any changes in 10th Region coaching corners.....

Featured Replies

I have to agree with Preachit on this. Mild success at softball does not translate into success at the varsity basketball level. However...........he has coached basketball in the past but I am not sure how successful he has been. He was a JV coach for a little bit in the boys program under Coach Fisher and from what I can gather he would not support Persinger as a varsity head coach.

His support (or lack of it) was due to something other than basketball coaching abilities. It was more personal!

All of that does not matter. He deserves a shot. I am not sure if he even wants it but if he does, he deserves it! From what I have seen and been told, he has put a lot of time, years, energy, and effort into what he has done. Give him a shot BC admin.

Everyone has their own oponion and I have my own . Yes."I" think Coach Persinger should be given the chance to coach the high school. Every program that he has been involved with has been successful even though every player or Parent may not have been happy about their playing time Coach Persinger did what he thought was best for the TEAM. He has lived in this community his entire life, so I do not believe he will be using BC has a stepping stone. He has high school experience(assist. Varsity and JV) . Bracken Co. needs a head coach that everyone can be proud of and someone that the players can look up too and RESPECT. If he can build the boys basketball program into something close to what he has done with the girls softball program then we will all take PRIDE in a successful basketball program.

If you have someone else in mind that meets all of those qualifications then you can have your opinion too, but that is just my opinion!!!

Nothing that I have said had anything to do with PLAYING TIME, I was talking about developing the TEAM and ALL players fundamentally. Everyone does have to right to their own opinion and I respect that. As the varsity year went on, I heard 5 or 6 different players names mentioned by fans that the program and plays should be built around, I personally feel like we should try to build the program around a team with several players having important roles in that development. I don't feel like that is being done at the lower levels and the process repeats it's self as the players move on up and several players are left behind that could have developed into some pretty good players if given the chance. And yes I agree Coach Riggs should be given a lot of credit for his time and efforts in the fundamental development of some younger players.:thumb:

Why is this job still not posted? Are we absolutely positive that it is open?

The head basketball coaching position will be open. It has not been posted yet. Coach Persinger deserves a chance. He has been there many years and has been an assistant on the girls side to Coach Jon Wirth and an assistant to Coach Dan Fisher on the boys side. He has coached middle school basketball and fastpitch softball. He is not going anywhere and will develop this program from the elementary level up. Everyone in Bracken wants someone that will stick around so they need to hire someone that has stuck around and is not going anywhere. As far as some parents and players not liking him, how many people on here at your workplace likes your boss everyday? I would venture to say some do and some don't. My point is there are some that like him and some that don't. It's that way with any coaching position especially. Why not give him a chance? What does Bracken County have to lose? Whether he wins or loses some Bracken Countians will like him and some will not. Give him a shot.

It will not be parents that block Coach Persinger's path to the head coaching position. Read post 151 by sportsreporter2008 and you get a glimpse.......

I know you go to the ball games because I've seen you there, but how long have you actually been around the game of basketball? Is it long enough to know who is really a good coach? Just curious.

What is this?

I do not need to give you all of my qualifications, but I will say that I been around long enough to know what is right and not just listen to a few disgruntled parents, if they even exist, and base my entire argument on them. If you have a personal problem with Coach Persinger then you should come out and say it.

As I said before I'm stating my opinion on who should be the Bracken Co. coach and if you have a better candidate lets hear about him. Don't get all bent out of shape over my choice. I guess since you do attend games you should be very knowledgable and have a list of candidates, but I am not in the least bit curious!!!

When are people ever going to figure basketball out.. I hear all of you Bracken Co. folks trying to blame and give credit to various different people. It is all about the feeder program and where would Bracken be if an interested parent (Riggs) hadn't taken an interest in those kids?

I tell you where they would be, Caught between 2nd and 3rd and dont know how to get home

Personal it was I believe. Also I believe Persinger has done something that 95% on here hasnt and thats play on a very successful Basketball team at KCC, and yes he is capable of Coaching at BC. Win 12 games and your a Saint here in BC. Maybe Persinger- Kelsch- Hinson, Reed Hamilton- Florer:banana:- And maybe even the Great Mike Appleman from Augusta.. he could help them on there free throws. I believe he was a 90% shooter from the line, Of course he told me that. PUT IT THIS AWAY. It wont be long as it has been coached named soon...

Quite certain Appleman was not a 90% FT shooter and even more certain he has no interest in coaching at Bracken County.

Where did that even come from?

As a former resident/student in my younger years of Bracken Co, the later part of this thread has certainly been interesting. So, allow me to chime in.

For starters, Bracken played an early middle school season even as far back as the 70s when I lived there and my folks were working in the school system...so its hard to blame their problems on just that.

Its all about the feeder programs when you are talking about a Class A school like BC. It has to be organized, instructional, yet competitive. You have to have a community involved, and not involved as griping parents or critical anoymous internet message board posters. They have to be involved by donating time, supporting the kids' schedules, and having talented coaches in the system. And, by that, I am not talking about the high school head coaches. I am talking about parents, people in the community who have an athletic background. Is this happening presently in Bracken County? There used to be. Based on BGP, though, I believe the griping parents/anonymous message board poster thing is very prevelant in Bracken. :p

Junior high w/l records are useless when trying to project at the varsity level....and that goes for coaches, too. I've saw a middle school team in another district go undefeated, and then win only 10 games when that same group were seniors in HS. How many 8th grade starters on that undefeated team ended up starting for their same respective varsity team four years later? Try ONE. How many of those starters were even on that varsity team? That same ONE. Also, I was a part of a 8th grade middle school team that went 3-15 (I was a seventh grader), and when those 8th graders played varsity ball as seniors, they were like 17-10 and went to their regional tournament. Why was one somewhat successful, and the other wasnt? Because the first example played kids who were never going to be eligible in HS, they had been held back/failed a grade in elementary school, so they were more mature than their opponents in middle school. By the time they were in HS, they were no longer bigger or more mature physically. Most of the kids got discouraged and quit the sport. As for the school that went from 3-15 to a regional tourney berth, those kids played year round. The community was more close knit when it came to their athletic programs, they stayed the course, they played kids who they knew were going to be around as seniors. Plus, a couple of kids in my class were talented enough to help out, and you had a nice little team.

Someone brought up an intersting point earlier about kids not getting experience during the middle school years. BCHS had pretty competitive teams most years in the 70s, and in the 80s. In fact, if they had the All A Classic in those days, Bracken would have battled the Maysvilles/Parises/etc for the All A crown most seasons. Sure, they had some rough years, but schools with 3-400 kids are going to experience that. Now, they struggle. I dont know what the current setup is (other than you all talking about the BCMS team playing in this Ohio River Conference), but back in those days, the middle school feeder programs were at the respective elementary schools in Brooksville (Taylor), Western Hills, and Germantown. They mostly coached by native Bracken Countians, former BCHS players who came back to teach. The current superintendent was one. By the time they reached their freshman year, they had 15-20 kids who had extensive playing time at the middle school level, and at a decently high level (they played teams from Maysville/Mason/Pendleton/etc). How many kids reach their freshman year at BCHS playing a lot the previous two years in middle school? I take it there arent many since there is only one school. Is there an AAU program in Bracken Co? Do they play year around? I think those are the questions that need to be addressed rather than the tired old "the admin sucks, the AD doesnt know what she is doing, blah blah blah". That may be why the coaches dont stick around, they know that they are not going to have many varsity ready players coming up through the system.

Bulldog Pride, baby!! I loved playing in that gym.

Green & Gold all the way. Then went to Blue & White.
