Any changes in 10th Region coaching corners.....

Bracken County REALLY needs to take this hiring of a basketball coach a little more seriously! They need to get it right!

They need to hire someone who is willing to live in the community, be a part of the community, work with the kids, run an elementary basketball program, be involved with the middle school program, have some pride in their job!

That person is out there, if you interview and search, and do the necessary background checks to see that who you hired is really who they say they are!

I heard a rumor that they may want Lady Bears coach Patrick Kelsch to head up the boys program! Like I said, just a rumor.

Have heard that rumor also but don't know who "they" are.

Patrick Kelsch would be a great hire as head boys coach. He has put his heart and soul into Bracken County basketball for a lot of years now, and would give them a very dedicated, solid, head coach who wouldn't have his eyes on the door. I would cetainly hope that the job would be his, if he would aspire to it.

I feel bad for these senior boys. This is the 3rd coach they have had in 4 years. "Thats Terrible" I think its time the AD and the board office gets there act together.

PK or Brad Riley would be the correct choice in my opinion.

Is the Bracken news official?

If Bracken Co. is going to hire within its own system then Chad Persinger should be the leading candidate for the Bracken Co. job. He was the most qualified last year and still is this year. Absolutely no question about it.:thumb:

Riley would come I think, but there has to be a teaching position for him.

Actually at the HS level Chad Persinger has no experience at all. Much different beast coaching HS rather then junior high or middle school, trust me on that! Not saying he could not handle it, but it is different.

As for who THEY are, I mean those in charge @ Bracken County in their hiring process. Which I believe is done w/the AD/Principal and the Site Based Council. I know for a fact that the Superintendent has nothing to do w/the hiring @ BCHS!

Hasn't Coach Persinger coached the High School Ladies Softball team quite successfully for several years now. I know he has coached the boys 8th Grade Middle School team for awhile now, has Coach Kelsch coached a Boys team at any level(not being a smart aleck, justdon't know if he has or not)? Thanks.

Would like to know this also, if so think Coach Breeze had it hard right from the get go losing his starting point guard for the season and just having to throw different pieces out there to see if any would stick. Everyone should know just by watching college(UK) and high school basketball how important a true point guard and ball handler is at any level. Hopefully if there is another Coach selected this problem will be addressed(not at the high school level) but in the lower grades where ball handlers and point guards should be developed. This is a glaring weakness in the boys and girls high school programs where each probably averaged 20-25 turnovers a game(Maybe more). Even next year, there's a lot of 2 guard's on both squads, but can't think of any true point guards at this point with great handles, sure would make any Bracken County Coach's job a lot,lot easier if there were.

Persinger has coached HS girls softball and again a much different beast then HS basketball, in my opinion.

No, Kelsch has not coached boys (@ HS, may have coached MS boys) and that would be an adjustment for him, but one he could handle very well! Many coaches have made that transition and have been successful, Keslch could as well.

There are more issues with Coach Breeze then just wins and losses. The teaching position being one!

Like I said in an earlier post, Bracken needs to hire someone who will work with the elementary and middle school programs! I totally agree, it all starts there!

Obviously this has turned into a "Who will be the next boy's coach at Bracken County" thread, so I'll add my two cents worth. I'm sure there are a few qualified candidates in and around the area, but I would go along with Kelsch as well. From what I've seen, he's very passionate about the program and basketball, knows the game, got the girl's to overachieve, and would more importantly probably stay in the program long term--Which is exactly what they need!! My vote to PK--Hope that doesn't jinx him!! :D

I wouldn't say the girls basketball program has over achieved.

I wouldn't say the girls basketball program has over achieved.

What is that supposed to mean?

I wouldn't say the girls basketball program has over achieved.

I agree and PK has only a little over 1 year of high school experience with the girls and I feel that is still a big difference than coaching a boys program. Why are people afraid to give Persinger a chance? He excels with every program that he is involved whether it is HS softball or middle school basketball.
