March 24, 200917 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4010458 MINNEAPOLIS -- After taking Minnesota to the NCAA tournament in his second year at the school, Tubby Smith says he's planning on coaching the Gophers next season too.
March 25, 200917 yr Minnesota is perfect for him.. just get to the dance and there happy. Maybe so, but the man knows how to coach any way you look at it.... Tubby: 42-25 (2 years at Minnesota) BCG: 40-26 (2 years at UK) Pretty similar records, and there is no doubt that UK has had more talent the past 2 seasons than the Gophers.

I agree he can coach and he's a good guy. There are only 5-10 jobs in the country he can't handle.

March 25, 200917 yr He was able to handle the UK job quite well for 10 years. BCG can't even handle it for 2.... I think Tubby is a great coach. He has won everywhere he has been. But his final 2 years at UK, he was burned out and needed a change. I will be cheering for the Gophers as long as he is the coach UNLESS they play UK.
March 25, 200917 yr Not to stir things up, but didn't he (and Mitch) say he would be back at UK about a week before he left?
March 25, 200917 yr Not to stir things up, but didn't he (and Mitch) say he would be back at UK about a week before he left? They all deny until they accept. Pitino did the same thing. They all say "I am planning on staying right here." Until they have a new 'deal' in place, why jeopardize your current job? If I were looking for another job, I would not tell my employer until I had a deal in place and was about ready to leave. Billy D told UF he wasn't going anywhere, ... then accepted the Magic job, .. then told the Magic he wasn't coming and told UF he was staying put. It happens.
