Week 0 vs. Week 1

Featured Replies

Since I can't find many schedules yet, I'm wondering (for planning purposes) which - if any - teams will actually play their first regular-season games on Friday, Aug. 21.

Are there a lot of teams forfeiting a scrimmage in order to take an off week in the middle of the season, or are most teams playing two scrimmages and starting their regular seasons on Friday, Aug. 28?

Thanks for any responses.

Belfry is playing Prestonsburg in week 0.

Jason, the coaches have been split on having a week off versus not having a week off during the season. This compromise was reached to allow both sides to have their way.

To answer you question, there are a lot of teams that are, in fact, forgoing one scrimmage so they may have a week off during the season. Personally, I prefer not having a week off during the season, I would prefer that a team have one week off between Week 10 and the first playoff game. I think a team would benefit more from that, with an extra week to prepare for a team that they have not seen during the season, and to give injuries time to heal.

But, some don't see that way. Raceland will have two scrimmages and will not have a week off this season. I know that Ashland and Greenup County are playing in week 0 and will have a week off during the season.

Highlands is scheduled to play at Louisville DuPont Manual on August 21 (week 0), and Highlands is then taking a bye week in between hosting Dixie Heights (on 10/2) and playing at Covington Catholic (on 10/17).

Bell Co will be playing Alcoa, TN on Friday the 21 at Bell County. Should be a great matchup.

Ballard vs. PRP -- Week 0

I know there's also a Bowl Game in Henry Co. with three different games that weekend.

The Rafferty's Bowl will be played during Week 0. Both Warren Central is playing Pulaski SW, and Bowling Green will play Christian County. So all those teams will have an open week. I know Greenwood has a game against Portland (TN) that week, electing to have an open week October 23rd.

North Laurel plays Pulaski County

As Ram mentioned in an earlier post, Raceland will elect to start in week one and enjoy the experienced gained by 2 scrimmages. With heavy losses, the new starters need all the practice they can get. Also, in recent history, Raceland has played terribly the week after the bye.

Oldham County, South Oldham, and North Oldham will play in the Kickoff Classic to be held the weekend of Week 0. Oldham County will play Conner, South Oldham will play Woodford County, and North Oldham will play Moore.

Louisville Western vs. DeSales - week 0
