This team has transcended everything about basketball and took anybody who witnessed them from Pikeville to Paducah's heart. I will say this: COVINGTON HOLMES MIGHT BE KENTUCKY'S CHAMPION BUT THE ELLIOTT COUNTY LIONS ARE KENTUCKY'S TEAM!

This was a nice win for Holmes against a team that just wouldn't quit. Good luck to all the EC seniors in the future. Great season!

Thanks to all the Rupp fans that supported and encouraged our team. It almost brought me to tears to see 2/3 of Rupp arena boo-ing in unison which is a true testament to our boys. :ylsuper:

 

This was the final high school game for J. Ferguson, Et. Faulkner, Ev. Faulkner, C. Knipp, J. Flannery and J. Morgan. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for making the last 4 years such a treat. They are all wonderful kids and well deserving of the support and recognition they've received.

 

It was also the final game for our senior cheerleaders (A. Dickerson, S. Daniels, M. Dennis, C. Turner, H. Kinster, K. Stamper, W. Pennington) who deserve our congratulations on bringing home the First Place Trophy for the cheerleading competition. You ended your season with the biggest win possible.

IMO, Ferg also deserved to be on there!! We sure couldn't have done it without him.

I think that if Elliott had a coach that actually knew more than the players they would have won the state tournament the last three years in a row. Rick Mays is a joke, for instance Timmy Knipps dad has scared rick Mays so badly that the 6'7 player tries to be a shooting guard instead of playing post like he should. By the way Elliott had 4 timeouts left at the end of the game. I don't blame him for quitting playing the role of coach Ethan and Evan is leaving the real head coach and assistant.:ylsuper:

 

I disagree with this post. I believe Kentucky High School basketball is great and Elliott County, Central, Holmes, and even West Jessamine are examples of that. I do, however, think to often kids/players are sacrificed by having to play out-of-position for the sake of providing height at the post when there are no other players on a team that are tall. Kentucky is filled with 5'10 shooting guards and 6'4 centers (ala CJ Penny) who never truly get developed for what's most important, college play and a free education.

 

Don't get wrong, winning is top priority, but so should putting players in position to develop for the next level. I'm not sure how coach Mays is getting the blame, but Elliott County did play with fire and that usually is transcended down to the players from the coach.

Congrats to Holmes on an impressive win. Congrats to Elliott on a great run over the last few years. It ended on a sour note though with no championships to show for them except district and regions.

The media probably should have waited for them to win an All "A" state championship or Sweet 16 state championship before doing all the national media hype about them being the next Hoosiers II. It probably would not have put so much pressure on the boys to win one or both.

Congrats to Holmes...Excellent game...All I can say is Ricardo Johnson is a monster...He played a great game as did Pittman. Again congrats to Holmes.

 

Congrats to Elliott County as well. You guys are hardcore, hardnosed ballplayers that have no reason to hang your heads. You played your best and I regretfully say that your best just wasn't good enough today. Holmes was the better team on the floor today.

 

Again congrats to everyone that was on the floor in today's games. Both teams made it farther than many teams in the state. I know there are several basketball teams in the state that would have loved the opportunity to be where both teams were today.

I thought it was a great game.

 

I thought the better team won and that whoever won this game would probably end up being the state champ. I think both teams are better than Central, but we'll see.

 

I think Pittman was lucky the refs didn't see his frustration swing under the Holmes goal. Had he connected someone might have gotten hurt and he possibly could have been ejected for this game and the next. I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I was surprised and I think he got really lucky.

 

Holmes team is a treat to watch. They are so athletic and skilled at all 5 positions on the court and I'd like to see them play one of the top teams in the nation. I like their chances, they are that good, IMO.

 

I enjoyed watching Elliott County play also. When you watch them play it is easy to see why they are "Kentucky's team". They played with a lot of heart, they just didn't have enough to overcome Holmes' athleticism.

 

I really like Rico Johnson, but again, I really like the Holmes team.

 

I can't believe the Johnson brothers and Pittman are juniors.....:eek:

I'm sure EC fans our proud of their team... But don't you think thats kind of taking away Holmes well deserved respect? We can't forget about Louisville Central neither. Holmes hasn't won it all just yet. (Even though I fully expect them too.)
