Let's get this back to game discussion. Start another thread for the fluff.

:thumb::thumb::thumb:were done.

Very nice one at that, sleeps 6 :ohbrother::laugh:

Where you sitting tonight, I'll look for ya.:thumb:

The fifth foul call on T. Knipp was the difference in the game. Elliott had cut the lead to four when Pittman walked on the spin move then Timmy blocks his shot and they call the foul on Timmy. If they make the right call Elliott wins the game IMO. Congrats to Elliott County on a great season and good luck to Central tonight.

Are you serious?

The guy that ran by Pittman hacked and bumped which ultimately resulted in the spin move...should have been a foul on the floor.

They got payback on the phantom walk call a possession later I think?

Cant come down and turn it over like they did.

I guess EC is looking to cash in all of those remaining timeouts they walked off floor with?

Holmes held EC to 20 pts below their average. Holmes has 5 guys who can guard...Chris Knipp was defended....which often doesnt happen with everyone else getting attention.

EC is just not a very good defensive team. They could have fed Pittman all day in the post one on one against Knipp.

Ethan Faulkner is a player...NKU is getting a steal.

Ferguson great career...

Great season and story for EC.....congrats.

Holmes has one more to play and have not won anything yet.

Exorcise the demons from 1978, boys.

Good luck to Holmes in the finals. I've always kinda liked Holmes for some reason or other...I think I thought "Covington Holmes" sounded cool when I was a kid or something. I was hoping EC could cut the nets down and get the storybook ending, but it wasn't in the cards.

I'm hoping Holmes can finish the deal tonight.

From listening on the radio, it sounded like to me fatigue did affect EC. And, Holmes length affected them.

I think EC had their chance when they got the ball back down 4 and threw it away on that possession. I'm not going to debate whether Knipp's fifth foul was a bad call or not (the radio guys said it was), because saying that call cost EC the game is just frustration. They just couldn't come up with the plays in the end to get back even.

Nice way to handle that :thumb::thumb::thumb:. I will tell you from a Holmes fan's perspective I think that there may have been a walk there prior to the foul, however Knipp got the benifit of the doubt two times previously down the floor. You just can't play that wrecklessly with 4 IMO. But that is all I will say about that. Bottom line is that foul, whether it was good or bad, did not determain the outcome of the game.

Me being born in 84 I have no memory of this, however when I talk Holmes basketball with some of my fathers friends and some of my aunts and uncles, this always comes up. Hopefully they don't let it come down to a goaltending call tonight.

Awful.

Congrats to Holmes. I was at my daughter's birthday party and didn't get to watch the game, but the better team won. There's just no way that Elliott can win this game after having played 5 players the entire tournament. I was worried about their legs and from the way it sounds, they just couldn't keep up with Holmes. Its been a magical run for the Lions and they sure have made everyone proud. Great job to all players involved in this one and best of luck tonight to Holmes.

Like I said, I wasn't there, so I can't say one way or the other on the call. But, I absolutely agree with you...that call didn't cost EC the game...even if they get that call, Holmes is still up 4. They may have lost either way.

The fact is, they had their chances and just couldn't get it done, IMO. Holmes was the better team today and that's all that really matters.

As for Knipp playing wrecklessly with 4 fouls, I don't think they had a choice at that point. They couldn't play soft and give up points at that juncture in the game...EC had to get stops and get points to get back even. That's a risk worth taking and it resulted in his fifth foul. Again, that's just my opinion.

Congratulations to both teams on great seasons and good luck to Holmes tonight. I'm hoping they can finally get that elusive title and keep the trophy out of Louisville in the process.

Agree, but thats where the lack of any depth comes into play. If they could have went offense for defense with some subs, used some time outs stratigically there then they may have been able to avoid that 5th foul, but when you only play 5 guys it is tough.

Heard Coach Mays say on the radio that he had coached his last game. Did they say anything else about this in the postgame interviews?

I think that if Elliott had a coach that actually knew more than the players they would have won the state tournament the last three years in a row. Rick Mays is a joke, for instance Timmy Knipps dad has scared rick Mays so badly that the 6'7 player tries to be a shooting guard instead of playing post like he should. By the way Elliott had 4 timeouts left at the end of the game. I don't blame him for quitting playing the role of coach Ethan and Evan is leaving the real head coach and assistant.:ylsuper:

Rule #13

Tough loss for Elliott county. I was hoping they could pull it out for the 16th. There was some apparent controversy in the stands after the game today. I'm not sure what was going on, but there was definately alot of emotion. Good luck to Holmes against Central.

In my opinion, Ferguson has to score 25 points if the Lions want to beat a team like Holmes. Poor coaching by Mays in many aspects of the game.

Did any Elliott players make the all-tournament team?

Probably not win the state three years in a row. .. but last year and this year were both possible.

Doesn't matter now anyway. Next year's class (and coach) has work to do. Let's not weight them down with cares of the past.

I just hope that the team/coach has the support of the masses next season.

Holmes... wow...
