Holmes 67 Elliott County 57

Featured Replies

Just back from the game. This one hurts. There is some consolation for me though: Elliott lost to a whale of a team.

Congratulations Holmes, you are everything you have been advertised to be.

It's been a pleasure debating the issues with your fans! Now, enjoy the finals. I'm jealous.

Thank you Team Elliott. The old adage goes something like this: "Someone may fill your shoes, but they will never take your place!" Your place is forever etched into the hearts of those who you have taken along with you on this incredible journey. I am proud to be one of those who has done nothing more than "tag along." To this year's seniors, enjoy the future...it's bright. To the rest of the team.. can't wait until next season!

Thanks!

I am trying to keep him calm over here ha ha ha. Too bad you can't be at Rupp yourself tonight rooting for the 9th.

He is litterally at the same desk in our room at the Marriott. :D:D:D

My guess is he has you on a short leash.:lol: :isurrender::ohbrother: Have fun..... and enjoy yourself and bring back that Trophy!:thumb: It's been far too long since it has sat in a gym in the Ninth Region.....

First, I'd like to congratulate Holmes. Terrific, athletically gifted group of kids. Seem very well coached. I'll agree with the poster earlier in the thread, Ricardo seems to have the game to translate to the next level in a major way. His upside is huge.

As for Elliott, it seemed to me that they were out of gas to some extent. And I mean no offense to the bench, but really there is very little room for error for the first 5. Other teams play 8 with very little dropoff in pace. Tough to face that type of competition for any length of time that way. Just simply got out athleted this morning. They had too many turnovers, some of which were due to pressure, many were not. Also missed some uncontested looks that they typically don't miss. And against a team the caliber of Holmes, you simply can't survive without your A-game.

I'll say this in closing, Elliott has in virtually every way, been the class of the 16th region for the past 3 years. These kids have raised the bar in the region no doubt. How many coaches for the past 3 years used these kids as an example at one time or another when trying to instruct their own teams? Max effort both ends of the floor night in and night out. I'll miss seeing that show in this region, not that it won't be nice for everyone else to face an Elliott team minus the big 4 seniors next season.:D

I wish you the best of luck in the future, and I look forward to following your progress at the next level. I must say, I've never seen so many from our region at the state tourney cheering their worthy representative on. Once again, congratulations on a terrific season.

Good luck to Holmes in the final!

The fifth foul call on T. Knipp was the difference in the game. Elliott had cut the lead to four when Pittman walked on the spin move then Timmy blocks his shot and they call the foul on Timmy. If they make the right call Elliott wins the game IMO. Congrats to Elliott County on a great season and good luck to Central tonight.

Come on now, give credit where credit is due. Holmes scored 18 points off 13 EC turnovers and out rebounded them 38-28. Second chance points, Holmes had 17, EC had 4. The fouls were 14 by EC and 15 by Holmes. Pretty much beat them in every stat there is. The better Team won!!

As for the EC players, you guys for sure have the hearts of a lion. Congrats on a wonderful season and good luck to all you Sr's moving to the next stage of your life.

Yea, we can't afford any slip up of the fingers tonight  And as far as that trophy, your right, it has been to long. We will do our best to ensure that it finds a safe home in Evans Fieldhouse this year.

You have a suite I hope.

Let's get this back to game discussion. Start another thread for the fluff.

Good luck to Holmes in the finals. I've always kinda liked Holmes for some reason or other...I think I thought "Covington Holmes" sounded cool when I was a kid or something. I was hoping EC could cut the nets down and get the storybook ending, but it wasn't in the cards.

I'm hoping Holmes can finish the deal tonight.

From listening on the radio, it sounded like to me fatigue did affect EC. And, Holmes length affected them.

I think EC had their chance when they got the ball back down 4 and threw it away on that possession. I'm not going to debate whether Knipp's fifth foul was a bad call or not (the radio guys said it was), because saying that call cost EC the game is just frustration. They just couldn't come up with the plays in the end to get back even.

Elliot County my hats off to you all. Before this tournament I had never seen you all play just would read all the papers on you all and your team. And going into the tournament I thought Holmes was going to win the whole thing, but you all have impressed me and a lot of other fans in attendance at the Sweet 16. Pat yourselves on the back players and coaches, what you almost did was a true "David and Goliath" story, but none the less you all should not be upset and you should hold your heads up high. Good job and good luck to both teams in the finals tonight.
