That's a three-peat and four out of five. I find it amazing that anyone even comes on here to complain about Holmes only scoring 32 or moves that Henley made or his coaching style. I've watched Holmes press, run and gun with many athletic and gifted teams throughout the 90s through up until Henley came here and look at the results... We didn't win a region again until 2005. All because we couldn't execute better in the half court than other teams. There is a faction of Holmes alumni that will never get it either... You'll still find people in the stands saying "can you imagine if this team pressed with all these athletes?!?!" The fact is Henley has figured something out and its made us a state power again... It also may make us state champs next week.

Interesting. I can't picture him playing much. He only played 13 minutes total and I picture him playing mainly in the 2nd half.

This would not be too surprising because i think that he is good enough to be playing and he played maybe a minute tonight.

 

I think Brown, who is a senior, took all of his minutes this season.

You aren't giving any credit where it is due on that side of the ball and that is Boone's defense. Holmes was just as clueless on attacking it as the Rebels were on the other end.

Boone did play great defense, I wouldn't say that Holmes was clueless. They got some shots, Boone did a good job of stopping Holmes from penetrating. Both teams shot poorly tonight due to the tight defense each team played.

I was not at tonight's game, but if the New Cath game is any indication, their Sweet 16 trip will be short. Holmes cannot go through the motions for the first three quarters and then decide to turn it on in the fourth. That is a recipe for disaster against the caliber of teams down there.

What people don't realize is that winning the 9th Region is one of the hardest regions to win. A bunch of teams, some really good coaches. How can you not like the job McQueary has done despite some people trying to run him off. He has done a great job. All the biggies play each other, and all teams do a really good job of scouting each other and taking away things you like to do.

In addition you now see a shift in officiating in my opinion...they are calling it like a college game. They are looking for advantage-disadvantage stuff and simply not calling fouls. High school kids arent good enough overall to score with contact. A lot of hand-checking, a lot of bumping off screens, a lot of body contact being allowed on drives...high schoolers just arent good enough to score through that.

When Holmes gets to state, things will open up some. Scouting will be different and you may get a better whistle. But defense is constant.

Both teams got after it tonight on defense and each possession became very precious.

 

Most of the time scores like this are simply bad offense, but both of these teams flat got after it on D tonight. Loved watching some of the chess matches going on between both teams...

Good matchups all over the floor...impressed with Boone tonight.

 

To be honest, this was a dreadfully painful came to watch until a minute left in it. Holmes offense just doesn't produce. Yes, Boone played great defense, that's not question. But with the talent Holmes has, they should have scored more than 32 points. Passing/dribbling around the perimeter won't get it done down state. I thought Ricardo Johnson played well and Pittman, when he actually PLAYS, is a force. The problem is, this team has not improved throughout the year..and I feel like their trip might be a short one. They need to pick it up. Keep up the defense, but need a better game plan on offense.

 

Hats off to Boone. You all played well and had the chance to take it, and it just didn't fall your way. Nothing to hang your heads about. To the kid [#24] who missed the layup, you played a great game, and it happens to the best!

 

Good luck to Holmes down state, and I hope you all can bring a championship home to the 9th.

Boone gave a whale of an effort...Holmes just had enough...and that is all you need this time of the year.

 

Pretty good crowd for the 10th region preliminary....how many stayed around, or came late, for the marquee 9th Region title game?

I thought the crowds tonight were outstanding. I thought after the first game it would thin out...but it grew...I would say close to 6,500 to 7,000.

Too bad they ran out of food at some of the concession stands. Food didn't run out in my suite though.

They got the travel call correct on Riley late in the game.

I would like to see the replay of the timeout they gave Holmes down on the baseline. The kid obviously travelled before calling timeout, but was he standing out of bounds when he signaled the timeout? :confused:

I think the tardy whistle was the major issue there.

 

I was opposite the play and in one of the suites ( ) so I had a bad look, but my first impression was that the biggest problem with the reaction the call got was how late the whistle had blown. Granted I didn't see when he had full control but I clearly saw him turn and call the TO well before going out of bounds. The whistle blew as he was already past the cheerleaders...

Who is forgetting Holmes won the game? These two teams are so even it is nuts. Your original post wasn't giving Boone much credit and made it seem like Boone was just trying to run clock, not the case at all. I thought Holmes did a much better job this time around in defending the back screens/cuts that Boone killed them with in the first game. That was the difference in this one IMO. Boone just didn't get a lot of easy shots like they did in game one.

 

Both teams layed it all on the line tonight. I hope now the Boone fans who criticized their coach so much last year and early in the year this year realize they have a great coach in Mcqueary. He has put his team in position to win every game they've played this year.

 

Not 100% sure but didn't Boone tie their record for wins in a single season with 26? I know their 03/04 team was I believe 26-4 or 26-5 and also lost in the region title game.
