Wireman, Ashland had two chances trying to play with EC, slim and none ! They choose none. They maybe could have played keep away and the score would have been 40 to 20 , but no team in the 16th can play with them for a whole game.

 

I can't argue with that, but if I'm lying in my death bed one day and the doc says, "ok we can take this option and you'll die or we can take this option and you have slim hope..." I'm taking slim hope.

They faced Ballard with people saying they couldn't run with them. I'm sure if Eastern or J-town want to run it will be their mistake. If you see them play they will make a believer out of you.:popcorn:

 

I really want the Lions to win the state title. I can't wait to see them play at Rupp. Teams like Eastern & J-town scare me to death. I watched them play last night and they are so athletic and deep. I want the Lions to stay fresh and rested as possible.

Guys, listen, it has nothing to do with rubbing anyone's nose in anything. If a team refuses to concede and wants to keep pressing and keep their starters in the game, any coach worth their salt is going to return his starters to the game or keep them in the game. Coach did a fine job of limiting T. Knipp to rest his ankle and was trying to substitute out his starters. But when faced with a 30 point lead and plenty of time left in the game and Ashland pressing, you have to have ball handlers in the game. If Ashland would have backed off and tried to play out the game, Coach Mays would have returned the favor and substituted more freely and quicker. There is no hidden agenda or foul play involved here. I commend Coach Biggs for trying to play hard and keep trying to get back in the game, but you are allowed to compete against it, too.

Per the record book sold at the tournment The All-Time 3pt Goals made didn't have Ferguson listed in the top 10. That was a surprise for me. Obviuosly these totals were before this years tournament started. The Top 10 made ranged from 11 - 26.

That would have been worse than stupid, If Mayes lets one of these starters get injured with a 30pt lead, the Steve Bartman eposide with the Cubs will look like a choir practice.

You've been around this game forever and you know a good shooter just shoots. Every now and then they don't go in, it's nothing you can fix, cause there's nothing wrong with it, you just keep shooting. I'm looking forward to next week . They will do fine.:thumb:

If EC wanted to run up the score on Ashland, the margin of victory would have been many more than 33 and EC would have easily invaded the three digit territory. I doubt EC would have been gunning for Ashland just because Ashland "dodged" them during the regular season. This isn't the 1920s, 1930s or even the 1960s. Ashland is not seen any differently around the state than is any other team. Their glory days appear in history books somewhere between the Reformation and the Civil War.

Maybe that had something to do with Ashland pressing and fouling while down 35 points, and they did call the dogs off they could have beat them by 60 if they wanted to.

Ah, the old blame the opposition game............so.........EC........which presses and shoots 3's as their hallmark, blame ASHLAND for pressing & shooting 3's......which is their hallmark..........And. of course EC could have won by 60.......or 70.............or heck even 100 points if they were REALLY wanting to, but they were merely trying to hold Ashland in check by shooting 3 balls with under 3 minutes to go. You do realize on some level how silly that sounds, right?

I understand that u have drunk the Kool Aid, but try & put it down every now and then. I don't blame the kids..........but I do blame Rick.

If you can't help from being blown out in the semis of the regional tournament, is that really Elliott's fault. I think that both teams prospered from their experiences because Elliott needs the game time experience for Rupp and Ashland needs the future experience for their young group. It looked like to me that the coach was molding into their heads that this is where we want to be and we will not quit and get all the future experience that we can. Elliott benefits because they are getting ready to have the toughest test in their careers and need all the game time experience that they can get. Where and when are the kids from Ashland going to get that type of experience in practice? Elliott is the best team this area has seen in a long time and we all know it, so why not make some positives out of what you already know will be negative.

 

Excellent post, most of Ashland's players have 2 or 3 more years to play. With no core group in front of them why not use this opportunity to your teams' best interest? District and Region games played will be a big help come next season.
