I would agree, I didn't say that I disagree with Elliot having their starters on the floor. That is a decision that has to be made at each game. I only take issue when a team A is up 25+ on team B, team B pulls their starters and team A continues to play with their starters. Thats when I take issue. But the way that I look at it, as long as you play your varsity you can't get upset for the other team playing theirs.

I am looking forward to watching this Elliott County team at Rupp, I hope that can finish and win the 16th. Good luck Lions!

Being a football guy and on the sidelines at Raceland, I have a good example of what you guys are debating. Coaches Vanderhoof and Maynard are very classy men and call the dogs off early in the 3rd qtr of many games that we could name our score, but this past season at East Carter, we had 3rd stringers in the game in the 3rd qtr and East still had their starters in the game. Now, we were holding our own and the win was not in doubt, however, East laid a devastating hit on a Sophmore receiver and decided to stand over him and celebrate the hit. Coach Maynard said some things I won't repeat here and told the starters to get ready for defense. After 2 successive plays of loss of yardage, he put the 3rd stringers back in the game. This was done to let East know something. They didn't change their tactics, but it sure made them quit celebrating vicious hits on our Freshmen and Sophmores.

 

I applaud Coach Mays and the way he called the game. Look, Ashland was up 18 with 6 minutes left in the game against Rowan and ended up playing in overtime. Anything can happen when a team has time and is pressing. So why would anyone think that the coach wouldn't do what was in the best interest of protecting the lead and the win?

He also became second in all time made threes in the tourney tonight and likes nine getting to number one and I dont believe that will happen.

Never mind A!!! I saw the answer someone already posted it!! I missed it somehow first time I read downthe line!!!!!!

Per the record book sold at the tournment The All-Time 3pt Goals made didn't have Ferguson listed in the top 10. That was a surprise for me. Obviuosly these totals were before this years tournament started. The Top 10 made ranged from 11 - 26.

TruBlu, it would appear to me that EC was rubbing APB's nose in it a bit. I just think that Coach Mays needed to get his core players off the floor after the outcome was no longer in doubt. I agree that everybody here in the 16th should be proud of what EC has accomplished. I love watching them play. They do it the right way. Hard nosed defense,with an all out assault on offense.

 

If they were (and I'm not saying they were) but maybe just maybe it could have something to do with Ashland refusing to reschedule their game that was snowed out.:sssh:

Guys, listen, it has nothing to do with rubbing anyone's nose in anything. If a team refuses to concede and wants to keep pressing and keep their starters in the game, any coach worth their salt is going to return his starters to the game or keep them in the game. Coach did a fine job of limiting T. Knipp to rest his ankle and was trying to substitute out his starters. But when faced with a 30 point lead and plenty of time left in the game and Ashland pressing, you have to have ball handlers in the game. If Ashland would have backed off and tried to play out the game, Coach Mays would have returned the favor and substituted more freely and quicker. There is no hidden agenda or foul play involved here. I commend Coach Biggs for trying to play hard and keep trying to get back in the game, but you are allowed to compete against it, too.

Yeah, I"m going to have to agree. Just ask Ballard's coach what happens when you try to outrun the Lions. That being said, there is a game tonight that needs to be dealt with first.

Wireman, Ashland had two chances trying to play with EC, slim and none ! They choose none. They maybe could have played keep away and the score would have been 40 to 20 , but no team in the 16th can play with them for a whole game.

If you can't help from being blown out in the semis of the regional tournament, is that really Elliott's fault. I think that both teams prospered from their experiences because Elliott needs the game time experience for Rupp and Ashland needs the future experience for their young group. It looked like to me that the coach was molding into their heads that this is where we want to be and we will not quit and get all the future experience that we can. Elliott benefits because they are getting ready to have the toughest test in their careers and need all the game time experience that they can get. Where and when are the kids from Ashland going to get that type of experience in practice? Elliott is the best team this area has seen in a long time and we all know it, so why not make some positives out of what you already know will be negative.
