PRP Coach Jason Stinson admits he withheld water from players.

I agree on hydration at home. When a football player is running drill's in the summer and the temp is 94 degrees it can get rough on the players. Water should be provided when the players need it.

It should, but it's not going to change anything. I hate to say it but the boy not getting water at practice isn't what lead to his death. Coming to practice unprepared is..

How did he come unprepared?

Do you know for a fact he was not hydrated? Or are you making false accusations on a 15 yr old kid? Can you prove he wasn't hydrated? At that temp you can be well hydrated and still suffer the affects of the temps. It doesn't help being in full gears and going full speed. So if you can't prove the kid wasn't hydrated when he came to practice don't make accusations.

I played football and had water held from us many a times. If you don't hydrate properly before practice there is nothing, once again nothing, that water during practice is going to do. It's to late..

And if it was 90+ degrees and you were being put through a grueling practice, then your coach was equally as wrong.

And, just so I follow, are you saying that if at some point during very rigorous, intense physical exercise someone should become dehydrated, that all hope is lost and there's no sense in even bothering to take in any water/Gatorade to re-hydrate? Can you supply a link to some medical website to back that up?

I will wait to make judgement on this. I want to hear the whole story. I want to know was there any physical condition or anything else that contributed to this young man's death. You hear rumors but will wait to see what is actual fact.

I agree! :thumb:

There was a proposal mentioned in one of the news reports regarding an additional safety measure for kids/coaches. The youth would be weighed before/after practice. If they come in to practice the next day "underweight" (therefore, not hydrated), they are not allowed to practice. You need very sensitive scales to do these types of measurements, but thought the idea was interesting. If it could potentially save someone's life, it would be worth it.

This a witch hunt at its finest, every coach in the world could be got if this guy is gotten.

Gatorade will do a much better job than water, because it replaces electrolytes your body lost. Water doesn't, all water is doing is quenching your thirst at this time.

This is flat-out dead wrong. If you think water isn't a valuable component to help rehydrate someone, you are very, very much mistaken.

Once your body is to the point of shutting down, a 2 minute water break is not going to change that process.

Water is the essential nutrient of your body.

I'm not arguing water isn't important I'm arguing that in this case.

One water break isn't going to change the outcome..

Players reported the Coach got mad because they were slow coming back from a "water break." Some kids got water, and there were at least 3 breaks.

That's fine, but that's just not the impression post #34 gives when you state that water does no more than quench someone's thirst in a case of dehydration. It does a whole lot more than that.

And with respect to your last line, there is absolutely no way you have enough information on this particular situation to know whether or not a water break could have changed the outcome. If you did, then you might want to be prepared to be called as an expert witness in this trial.

I will say that I have to agree with this a little bit. The witch hunt seems awfully brutal but always a possiblity. Other coaches doing it no doubt in mind.

You are never going to know that because I understand there was either no or a very limited autopsy with no core temp readings.

On facts alone I don't think the state can prove their case but on emotion anything is possible.
