March 3, 200917 yr Casey -- "First of all, I think he's in over his head. I think he has no clue as to what's going on in the game." "I just don't think he knows what it means to coach at UK. I hate to say it, but a change has to be made, and soon, or we're going to lose what UK is all about. Ask (Richie) Farmer, or (John) Pelphrey, or (Deron) Feldhaus what it means to play at Kentucky. Ask them what that "Kentucky" across their chests means. Somehow we've let that go. If we lost we came out fightin' mad; we weren't going to lose two in a row. It's beyond me why (Mitch) Barnhart and (Lee) Todd put up with it." http://www.wlextv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9933097&nav=menu203_4

Just wondering what the context was and why he felt the need to say it.
March 3, 200917 yr Author Nearly exactly my same thoughts while OTS was there. Not to be rude but I put more weight on Casey's thoughts. This is the first former UK player that I can recall that has criticized a UK coach.

Well, I think it's just a continuation of what Orlando started. This is the probably the worst stretch of KY basketball, maybe ever, and it's still not really that bad, by other programs standards. I think if given time, BCG will turn it around. He's just got to get rid of some of the bad eggs first.
March 3, 200917 yr How would Mike Casey know if BCG is in over his head? I'm not a big fan of BCG but Mike Casey's opinion doesn't do any more for me than some opinions on here.

I value the opinion of any former UK player who has been through the program far above the opinions of fans on a message board.

March 3, 200917 yr I value the opinion of any former UK player who has been through the program far above the opinions of fans on a message board. :thumb: I did too until Kenny SkyWalker said that Tubby Smith was the greatest coach we ever had. UK players are no different than anybody on this message board, except they've probably had it a lot easier in life than most.
March 3, 200917 yr :thumb: How old is the poor fellow anyway. For what it is worth, I have often heard that if not for the car wreck, Mike Casey may very well be UK's all time leading scorer. Casey is actually not doing very well with his health, may prayers go out to him. Remember this about Casey's comments, his best friend is Mike Pratt. There maybe some behind the scenes information that he knows. Pretty interesting comments.
March 3, 200917 yr Here's the entire Q & A session... http://www.aseaofblue.com/2009/3/2/777159/q-a-with-former-wildcat-gr Thanks. Wow! Casey -- "They're under tremendous pressure because of the prestige ... getting embarrassed on national TV. This (the South Carolina game) isn't the first time." For some reason, he REALLY dislikes BCG...and for some reason feels the need to express it publicly.

March 3, 200917 yr Author For those who don't remember him, Casey was a part of the great Issel/Pratt/Casey/Terry Mills class that many consider to be one of the best of all time. Rupp considered Casey to be the best "money" player he ever coached and it is widely thought that if not for the accident UK would have another championship. Casey, Pratt, and Issel are all good basketball minds and have stayed close to the program.
