Does UK accept a NIT invitation or not?

Featured Replies

KENTUCKY does mean something, if it comes down to a couple of bubble teams. $$$$ also counts in the thought process.

You are correct. If UK is close then we will get in.

North Carolina State won the 1974 title and was snubbed for the 1975 tournament despite a 22-6 record. They turned down the NIT invite.

Georgia Tech turrned down a bid to play in 1995. Louisville turned down a bid to play in 1987. Georgetown turned down a bid to play in 1992.

They are the only ones in recent memory.

So, bottomline, is there doesn't appear to be a lot of precedence for doing so. Hard to imagine UK would decline if they don't get invited to the NCAA.

Georgia Tech and Georgetown cited exams and being on the road while trying to get classwork turned in as reasons. Louisville and NC State appear to be sour grapes.

I hope UK accept a NIT invitation,if they don't get a NCAA bid. I just don't won't UK's season to end that early.I want to see more Kentucky Basketball.

Correct.

UK has had worse teams than this one get in. Wasn't the '86 team with Sky Walker 18-12? They made it all the way to the Sweet 16 before losing to Chris Mullins and St. John's.

If money is not an issue and if the SEC doesn't force them to, UK should pass on the NIT invite.

Negative perception to top recuits "yippee I can go there and be in the NIT."

It will NOT help them for next season. Games don't help. Individual workouts are what will help for next season. Games simply allow them to keep making the same mistakes they've made for 30 games. Plus, it will still be the PP/Meeks show so next year's team will not benefit from that.

Playing WKU in an unfilled house screams "next."

UNC is closing in on all time wins. Take them anyway you can get them.

Georgetown was in 2002. Washington DC was a 1st/2nd round NCAA site and they didn't want to travel and take their kids out of class.

Louisville was 18-14 a season after winning the Championship, so, yes, probably sour grapes.

Don't remember GT doing it. They weren't that good in the mid 90's and missed the NCAAs several times. Did they have a reason?

Can a conference MAKE a team go? Does anyone know.

UK will would almost certainly host as long as they are still in it, so you have up to 4 home games. That would be pretty significant.

Correct. Wrong decade. It was 2002.

The NIT is a 32-team tournament and the semifinals and finals are at Madison Square Garden. At most a school could host three games in the NIT.

The Sweet 16 will get in the way with some of the games I think.

Wasn't it been expanded recently?
