I remember some unhappy Pitino fans until they reached the promise land. To me you're only as good as your players. UK just isn't there talent wise to be as good as some fans think they should be every year.

At the press conference announcing his hiring as UK coach, Rick Pitino said he would not sacrifice style in deference to weaknesses. Never mind the short-handed roster and lack of size, he said, we'll run and press and shoot three-pointers.

I just don't see why all the people are crying for adjustments. Pitino made adjusments over the years not on the fly. BCG thinks his system works. I think it will once he gets the guys in here he needs. His system landed him the job at UK while we sit on here and ask for zones. I hear stuff about his drinking, partying, and the way he conducts half time intervirews. I could care less about any of it. In fact I love the way he handles all 3. What better fit for a school in the heart of Kentucky than to have a burboun loving woman chaser who loves horse racing?

Pitino also said he wasn't leaving for the Celtics job. You know I can list many other statements Pitino made that didn't turn out so accurate. Pitino didn't vary from his style a whole lot, but he did make adjustments from his style based on his personel and the team he was playing.

We played man and got beat in Rupp on senior day, not as bad point wise, but not good by any means.

Simply embarrassing.

Words can't describe how wrong I think you are.

 

I don't think zone or man is better than the other, but there is no denying that you should play the defense that you will best utilize with the personnel you have and to best neutralize the other team. If the other team has a lot of trouble shooting from the outside, why would you ever do anything but zone against them? If you don't have the athletes to stick with them in man, why would you ever do anything but zone?

 

As I've watched my local high school team play this year, one common thread has emerged: teams that played zone against them gave them troubles, teams that played man got throttled. It's really hilarious that anyone plays man against them at all. Those who do are clearly coached by those who are stubborn and believe that their scheme is better no matter what past results have shown.
