I am a Bulldog Fan!!! Born and presently living in Covington. I am a Holmes Alumni. My point of veiw is somewhat bias because of these things. For some ungodly reason the Bulldogs will not destroy any team, plays to the ability of the opposing team. Whether it is great against Scott County, Bryan Station, etc... or terrible ball playing when it comes to the teams who are ave. team or a team they should blow out. Don't know what the problem is, whether it is the head coach slowing the ball down the way he does(never used to be Holmes game :confused:) when they are 9-12 deep and should run all night. If anybody really thinks Simon Kenton was going to win is totally mind numbing to me. The state can say what you want. From EC to Scott County to where ever. I said it before. The only team that can beat Holmes, is HOLMES!!!Period :thumb: That goes from the players to the coaches. To be honest the fans. A team like this and does not sell out once! Most the time there is less than 2 or 3 hundred :irked: In closing, it's up the Bulldogs to control their destiny. You gotta have

Holmes defense forces a lot of teams to take long possessions which causes for a low scoring game. Their press is still being perfected and got several turnovers tonight, but once a team crosses the half court line, it's like the pressure stops and Holmes just forces you to "grind it out" in a half court game by stopping penetration and forcing you to beat them from outside.

 

Let's not take away from SK. They played pretty well tonight and did things that have helped other teams keep the game close with Holmes all year. They got Pittman in foul trouble and shot the ball well from outside. If a team can do a combination of both, Holmes is very vulnderable, which was shown tonight.

 

They got Pittman in foul trouble at the 5 minute mark of the 3rd and he didn't return until the 4 minute mark of the 4th. Without him on the floor, Holmes seems to struggle some. SK also sat in a zone pretty much the whole game (2-1-2; 2-3, 3-2) which forced Holmes to be patient.

While I am not saying Coach Henley is wrong or that hes not doing a great job, you would think they would try to do more to up the tempo. I really thought that hurt them against Mason Co. in the championship last year (although I don't know how much they had in the tank that night) when they played fairly slow.

That being said Henley has done an amazing job with Holmes, and does know what hes doing.

I don't think there is any way Simon will not make it to the Region...play like they did tonight, I would like their chances against any of the 8th Region teams...Anderson County seems to be the class of the region but Simon Kenton proved tonight they can play with the best...keep those fires burning, I think you may be a factor the couple of weeks!

 

As for Holmes, I think they will be fine...I know they are the most athletic team I have seen this year...Good luck to both teams in the post season!

 

Can't see SK failing to reach the region with first round district matchup vs. W-town (no slight intended to the Demons, who will be playing at home). SK wasn't a very experienced team when the season started; now that they have some experience under their belt, they are developing rapidly.

 

I think this game shows just how much they've improved...but their play has still been erratic, and I'm still picking Grant to win the 32nd.

 

I still don't think SK is a real threat to Anderson, North Oldham, or Shelby to win the region, though, despite the fact the 8th is very down this year OVERALL.

Holmes doesn't play an uptempo game because more often than not, it makes them start taking bad shots, which also affects their defense. As much as fans want to see Henley "let em' loose", the game plan they're using now is the one they're going to be most successful with. It's also tough for them to play an uptempo style because they really don't have the depth to keep running like that all game.

Just how much of what he has planned for the tournament do you think he wants to show in a meaningless game like this??? I have to believe he has been working on things in practice that he thinks will work for them in the district. His focus has to be on HC and what they need to do to beat them. Then he will worry about the regional opponents. Holmes has had to play against every kind of tempo imagineable in the game of basketball. I believe you will see a variety of different things thrown at HC on Tuesday. He is not going to let them stand out there and throw up 3s.

I totally agree. I see a well oiled Bulldogs team VERY ready for post-season play. You're right about them not needing to show SK all they had. Pointless. They'll be extremely pumped and in fine form when it's time to go to work. Last year they amazed me at Rupp more than I expected because I saw how everyone along with Henderson stepped their game up harder than I had seen from them even in the Regionals. Henley really does know how to turn it on when it's time to get busy. He uses a lot of his regular season games as practice for this and that, but when it's on the line I think you're going to see the Holmes Bulldog team that they've been built up to be. When they're hot, they're really hot. Remember Scott Co. Well, I believe they can still play like that when they have to. HC's gonna give it all the smarts that they've got, but I think this game eventually gets far far away from them.

An interesting insight. It has appeared recently (from the scores) that Holmes may have gotten into a little funk. At least, compared to earlier play in the season. It very well could be that Henley has been concentrating on what they need to help them in postseason, more than just the game at hand.

 

I believe we may know the answer very soon. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the HC game. Im sure nothing will be held back in this one.
