deceivingly slow Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 With some threads discussing the 9th and 10th region tourneys and the travel associated for some participating schools, the regional alignments seems to be off base to me. Examples: Campbell Co are in the 10th. CC used to be in the 9th. Simon Kenton and Walton are now in the 8th. Bot used to be in the 9th. Why would KHSAA move SK to a region where they may need to travel as far south as Henry County to play? When in the 9th, the farthest SK may need to travel was Covington. When in the 9th, CC may have needed to travel 25 minutes to play Boone, now they're travel time is significantly increased by being in the 10th. What is/was the logic behind these realignments? Are there reasons outside of athletics for this?
mcraycraft Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I know the districts determine where the regional is held, but if we make it to the regional in the 10th, it will be approx. 113 miles to the BOK in Highland Heights vs. approx. 50 miles if it was played at Mason.

panther15z30 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 When you look at a map, it seems the southern most counties in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties were the ones moved out of the 9th region. Makes sense to me from a geographic standpoint with the overcrowdedness of schools in the NKY area.

In fact, since the school became "Walton-Verona", I believe it has ALWAYS been in the 8th. What politics would lead SK to the 8th? They didn't want to come.
Cubster Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 You think SK has better chance to win the 8th or the 9th? No brainer.

GatorFan Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 You would be correct westsider. Don't know the exact year.
ColonelMike Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Not true ... Walton-Verona moved to the 8th Region sometime in the 1990s. You're correct! My bad..."Verona" was the previous school in the 8th. But - despite my error - my point still stands...W-V has been in the 8th for a long time. This wasn't a recent move like SK's.
ColonelMike Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 You think SK has better chance to win the 8th or the 9th? No brainer. 2 and 3 years ago? The 8th, certainly. This year SK won't even be favored to advance out their district.

AirYardGo Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 2 and 3 years ago? The 8th, certainly. This year SK won't even be favored to advance out their district. They are the #1 seed...
