I know there were two legit illnesses (Lyle and Hensley) but many have quit because they do not want to work that hard. As I have said before, a small committed team, giving 100% is better than a team full of slackers. I think they still have about 30 committed players and possible at least that many freshman coming out, so the team should be around 60 players. This is up about 10 from where we finished last year.

 

I agree about Copley speaking up and asking the Board for the needed equipment. This is wonderful!!

 

I believe some are running track and baseball as well. You are right about the 100% committed that is where we will see some results. Kids that are truely wanting to play the game. Have you heard about when they might start the work on the field? We need to get this started in order for the new seed to have time to grow.

All I know is that it needs to be completed by mid April in order for the grass seed to grow and take hold properly before the first game in September. Hopefully we will see some bids at the next Touchdown club meeting.

You are right abut Football supporting other sports, with this debt to pay, there will be less "profit sharing" for other sports.

 

On how they're going to pay it back I really don't know. Maybe football can stop holding other sports up. JMO! Football has so long to pay it back.

I think most Greenup folks realize how fortunate we are to have an excellent coaching staff in place. Practices are run much more proffessionally and Coach Copley and his staff are building a team of well prepared young men.

 

I will be saddened when Spring practice ends and probably have withdrawals until July!!!!

Thanks, sidelinedoc, I was probably being defensive. Everything is going smoothly at Greenup right now. Boosters, parents, JFL Coaches, all working together as they haven't really done in the past. It no longer feels as if we are divided by which end of the county we are from. We are all Greenup County!!!! I want to make sure that boat doesn't get "rocked."

 

 

Coach J, you are right about doing the little things. When Coach Copley met and spoke with the Boosters he discussed this very thing. Things like, having the boys take off their cleats before entering the FieldHouse, wearing only school colors to lift or practice, even asking an assistant to pick up some trash on the practice field. He told us building on these little things, will help the team have pride in itself, in their "House", and truly impact the big picture down the road. Thanks for the role you played in making our Coach one of the best!

At the board Coach Copley took to action on the equipment problem and the middle school combining. The last booster meeting Coach Copley said he wanted to have a spring ball for the middle school in late April. There is no regalution for middle school football. He planned on having it for a week. Having a JFL and Middle school camp in the summer. The middle school is a big concern for Coach Copley, he said he's in for the long haul. He has already has some big fund raisers ahead for football. He's building it fast and the season hasn't started. 148days, 9hours and 11minutes until kickoff!

I am very pleased all is going well with the boys and the program but I'm getting tired of anything that happened in the past has been all negative. They did play in the district tournament and won 2 games 2 years ago and that was with the former coach and the former boys.

Anything that is said about the past always seems negative but then these posts claim to be all positive. Can't we move past all this stuff and concentrate only on the program now, don't run down the program before ok?

Mom55, I don't think anyone is trying to take away from the previous players or their accomplishments. I agree with you that, once a Musketeer, always a musketeer. I also know that everyone involved in the program respects and acknowledges all your contributions, from senior flags, to putting out the Football Program. You have been a dedicated and faithful Football booster. I think the boys really expressed this feeling toward your family at the Football Banquet.

 

That being said, the previous administration and BOE, has not really invested in the program. They really did not want to give Football any money. These things are changing, and the general excitement created by having a new coaching staff is bringing out more and more boosters. I also believe that the combination of the middle school teams will go along way to getting the parents and boys working together at an earlier stage and help create a true "one for all and all for one" attitude.

 

Thanks again for all your hard work. I know you will be making flags for this years' seniors and that they are looking forward to seeing them and will treasure them for a lifetime.
