Mom55, I don't think anyone is trying to take away from the previous players or their accomplishments. I agree with you that, once a Musketeer, always a musketeer. I also know that everyone involved in the program respects and acknowledges all your contributions, from senior flags, to putting out the Football Program. You have been a dedicated and faithful Football booster. I think the boys really expressed this feeling toward your family at the Football Banquet.

 

That being said, the previous administration and BOE, has not really invested in the program. They really did not want to give Football any money. These things are changing, and the general excitement created by having a new coaching staff is bringing out more and more boosters. I also believe that the combination of the middle school teams will go along way to getting the parents and boys working together at an earlier stage and help create a true "one for all and all for one" attitude.

 

Thanks again for all your hard work. I know you will be making flags for this years' seniors and that they are looking forward to seeing them and will treasure them for a lifetime.

The boys went live on offense and defense yesterday, did a little hitting and running the ball, looked good. Grayson is a beast!

They were really excited about scrimmaging. They were also fitted for new helmuts and shoulder pads this week. They are ordering 25 new helmuts and 50 sets of shoulder pads. The boys are looking forward to having this new equipment.

I had a chance to watch a little of practice yesterday,the boys did have some hitting going on and I think that they were loving it. One thing that I have noticed is after practice lots of parents sticking around talking to other parents , coaches, it is like no one wants to go home. It is great to be able to witness so much excitement from all that is involved. It is becoming one BIG FAMILY. :dancingpa

I agree, what are we going to do between the end of spring practice and July 15????? ( I know the boys will be lifting but it is much more exciting to see them hitting!!)

Wow...so it's somehow controversial that FOOTBALL will actually get more of the money that's brought in due to people coming to watch FOOTBALL games!?

Copley took a lot of things from the way I'd done them in the past...and a lot of things he took and IMPROVED on them.

 

I've had a LOT of great assistant coaches in the past (main reason we've had success -- HAS to be that way in a sport as multi-faceted as football). Main qualities I required was LOYALTY to the head coach, COLLEGE-STAFF work-ethic, and LOVE for the kids (love really meaning "the irrational willingness to sacrifice for the good of someone else"). Copley is at the top of the list (in a 'many-ways-tie' fortunate for me) on all three of those qualities of all the great assistants I've had the pleasure with which to work (and Tim Champlin is right up there too).

 

You'll see very sound, well-taught football at Greenup in the future. What'll happen better there than pretty much anybody around you is that might NOT be seen is that the kids will be CARED-FOR, SACRIFICED-FOR, and, as corny as it sounds, LOVED.

 

That is his main attribute as a coach...and though I was the 'head coach,' I actually learned from HIM how to do that part of my job better.

Coach is looking for our leaders to step up and lead in all the little things, both on the field and off the field. You know who you are so step it up and show some great leadership.

Don't forget we have a booster meeting Tuesday night at the highschool, in the cafeteria, at 6 pm.

A great way to step up would be to come to the meeting Tuesday night:bunny:. Coach Copley wants to send the boys to a camp this August and we will need help with this. Lots of things are in progress right now if you are not aware of them then contact a booster member or PM me. I was told that not only are we getting the new lights, seats, and equipment, but now sod was going to be put on the field as well. Also a booster member spoke with Scott Burchett, and he told them that the new field house is indeed coming this year he even drew it out and showed that there was going to be a breeze way.

It is so good to see the Board putting money into the football program. The boys will have new equipment, new field house, new stadium, new lights... HOW MANY DAYS NOW????? I cannot wait!!!!

Bench, I knew you would have the answer!!!!! I am going to make a calendar so I can cross off each day as we count it down. I know the clock in the field house is already set and counting down the days, hours and minutes until kickoff against Ashland!!!!
