Anyways, yes, every team should have a "mulligan". I think for discussion's sake on a site like this, we should focus more on matchups then past record. Of course it factors in but sometimes a team has another's number or a team has an off night. Ryle convincingly beat Conner who convincingly beat Highlands who convincingly beat Boone who just beat Holmes. What's it mean? Nothing. It's all about the matchups.

On the second part, exactly. I would have trouble believing that the loss to Shelby Valley hurt Elliott County more then the recent Holmes loss hurt Holmes.

I agree with all those points, but what I am saying is, if Holmes was number one (which Scott Countys should be number one in any poll), and Elliott County was number three, should either team be penalized for the most recent looses? In other words, should one move up and the other move down? Should they both move up? Should they both move down?

I don't think there is a general rule that covers it. I think you have to evaluate teams on a case-by-case basis.

 

I posed the question of where Elliott belonged in the rankings less than a couple of hours after Elliott's loss to Shelby Valley. At the time, Elliott had a convincing (in my mind ... I listened to the game) loss to Shelby Valley, which was ranked somewhere around #12 at the time, and had an overtime win over Anderson County, who was somewhere around #18.

 

With two wins against top-five teams and a few others within the top 20, Holmes' resume is more impressive, even after the events of the last few hours.

I agree in many aspects. I find it interesting that some of the Holmes fans list matchups due to size and athleticism on why Elliott cannot compete with them. But, as I read the Boone/Holmes thread I notice that many explain that Holmes had no answer for a certain guard penetrating at will. Elliott has three guards that can penetrate with the best. I just dont think all matchups are being considered by all.

I said it in another post, but what a night for high school ball. Elliott beats a top ten team that many wanted to see to prove Elliott was legit, and big bad Holmes lost a game to a non top 20 team. But a loss for any team this kind of year usually helps them in March. Hopefully Elliott loss againest Shelby Valley was there wake up call as I am sure Holmes loss tonight was theirs.

 

Might want to re check a few of the polls. Boone County is ranked top 10 in 4 out of the 6. :sssh: BGP is the only poll that doesn't have Boone top 20. (Which I assume they will after tonight...btw, not criticizing the poll...many will tell you I personally favor it most)

 

As far as THIS GAME, congrats to Elliott Co. You proved you belong in the top 10 and I gained a little more respect for you after tonight. Go and beat Ballard Sat, and I'll gladly be willing to admit you're a legit top 5 team. Good luck Lions! Sandy Hook has something to be proud of. :thumb:

Elliott looses to a Shelby Valley team that was out of the top 10.

Holmes looses to a Boone County team that was out of the top 10.

Both Elliott and Holmes have two losses, one to an in state team, and I believe both have a lose to one out of state team.

 

Sounds like apples and apples to me.:idunno:

 

 

But, please, state your case.

 

Holmes losses are to Bryan Station by 14 on a neutral court, and Boone County by 8 on BC home floor. Holmes did beat Bryan Station by 18 on BS home floor in the rematch though.

 

Not trying to prove a point or anything, but just informing you on Holmes losses since you had them losing to an out of state team. The only out of state team they played was Largo, MD and they beat them.

I can agree that Holmes has played a tougher schedule, but the point was: should Elliott County be penalized because of the Shelby Valley lose, even after beating Mason County. I don't think so, because like the Holmes fans are saying, anyone can have an off night, and I don't remember the shooting percentage, but Elliott definitely had a bad night against Shelby Valley and when they lost to the team in the BBC.

 

So, should Elliott and Holmes be given a "Mulligan" for there two most recent losses, equally?

Well if you followed every poll, Elliott would be anywhere from first to ten, so I usually stick to BGP poll, so I have no disire to re check a bunch of polls. :madman::madman:
