February 6, 200917 yr Jones my be able to help out. :thumb: Because the Reds need a .147 hitting defensive outfielder with a giant salad fork sticking out from between his shoulder blades since Patterson moved on to the Nationals. His bat has slowed down so much the last couple of years that he can't come close to catching up with a big league fastball anymore. Whose roster spot would he take? Bruce, Hairston, Tavares, Dickerson would seem to be locks. That leaves Gomes, Hopper, Nix, Ward and Jones among others for the 5th spot--I think Jones gets cut or goes to the minors.

February 6, 200917 yr I think he's a minor leaguer but you get a little depth down there in case you need him a few games IMO. I don't see much risk IMO adding depth in the minors. Maybe I am missing something though.

Either way the Reds can't be any worse off. More like low risk/low-medium reward. Ward will be a pinch-hitter and backup 1B/OF. Jones gets placed in Louisville in case of some injuries, if the Reds choose to keep him at all.
February 6, 200917 yr I love these signings, particularly Daryle Ward. Ward has a lot of pop and will be a great guy to have at GABP. He can fill in for Votto at 1st or play a little bit of LF if need be.
