Per C. Trent Rosecrans

The Reds signed OF Jacque Jones and OF/1B Daryle Ward to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League camp.

Jones played in 42 games with the Tigers and Marlins last season. Ward played in 89 games with the Cubs in 2008. Ward's 11 pinch-hit home runs tie him with Tony Clark for fourth-most among active players.

I like the idea of adding these guys for depth. Ward is a decent pinch hitter and Jones is a career .277 hitter with 165 homers.

At this point in time, I say "Why not". It seems the Reds are very unlikely to sign/trade a "big name" run producer at this point in time, so getting a couple of guys with MLB experience without really risking anything seems okay to me.

There's still a lot of power numbers to make up for with the loss of Dunn and Griffey. Maybe one or both of these guys can help contribute.

I like these signings and think it gives the Reds good depth to their bench. Id still like to see a big move for a LF and honestly would like to see them sign Luis Gonzalez as kind of a platoon guy with Dickerson.

Both of them are lefty hitters ...

Ward is a solid, veteran lefty off the bench. Not much of a glove but a dependable pinch hitter.

Jones is a spare part.

True ...

Dusty bringing back some old friends ... gotta love how that worked out last year.
