As for the whole Euton thing, he's a total team player. Sure he lacks speed and athleticism, but makes up for it with his basketball I.Q. and leadership ability. He doesn't force anything and let's the game come to him. He, like the other three on S.C. have the luxury of knowing they don't have to score 20 a night to give their team a chance to win. I really wish people would cut him some slack. He's just a kid who's having fun playing ball.

Hat's off to Scott County. Franklin County is not an easy out, and Scott County made the plays they needed to win.

I'm from Scott County and I would have to agree with Eta, if anything is gonna bring Scott County down its gonna be there lack of depth. However, those first 5 are so good and if they are really playing hard they're gonna be tough to stop.

 

As far as last night goes, I think both teams looked a little sluggish from not playing an actual game for over a week. While some of the posters are right, there is a chance that Franklin could knock off Scott County along with a couple other 11th region teams, there's also the possibility that if Scott is playing there "A" game they could run over the region by 15-20 in all 3 games.

 

It was good for both teams to get back in action after not playing for about a week, SC is certainly a very good team, probably didn't see SC's A-game, FC did play pretty good defense and had some breakdown at times, I would like to have seen FC force the SC guards to shoot from the outside more, they seemed to have gotten into the paint too easy, I have seen FC play better team defense, that was probably the biggest advantage. FC will be fine, when your shooting guard is in and out due to foul trouble, that is a big factor, we kept getting our MO broken.

Euton is a very good player, no question. If a team is committed to playing good man-to-man defense, and a defender is quick and has size, you have a chance to contain him. You can't stray far off of him though, or send him to the foul line.

Chad Jackson is the heart and soul of this team. When he struggles the whole teams struggles, when he plays well the SC team plays well. This has proven to be evident over the last 10 games or so. He struggled the whole game at the foul line, even missing 6 in a row at one point, but when the team needed him he rose to the occasion and made 4 in a row in the clutch. When they played Dunbar they trailed by 1 at the half, and as you could guess its because CJ struggled. He had a double double in the second half alone, and led SC to a 17 or 18 point victory.

 

Oh, BTW he is easily the best rebounding gaurd in the state.

And as far as the Euton thing is considered... He is in a position in the offense that keeps him from the basket, because he is a near-permanent inbouder of the ball and trails the ball as it comes up the court. And when they play quicker or taller teams, they tend to push the pace of the offense and therefor causes Euton to not be included in as many of the offensive sets that Phares, Guyn, Or Jackson are in. If any fan, like me, has watched from stands and watches this, you will see that SC is a team that has very short offensive possesions and very rarely develop into their half court plays. When on occasion they do, Euton has his chance to shine and does. Players that play the 5 spot on SC's JV and frosh teams also experience this phenomina.

Maybe so, but Euton chooses to play away from the basket as much as he does.

I think Holmes would have something to say about the bolded.

 

Euton benefits a lot from having Phares down low with him. When teams actually have the size to put someone on both him and Euton, you'll realize Euton doesn't score anywhere near as often:

 

V Andy Donovan (Franklin Co) 7 pts

V Elijah Pittman (Holmes) 9 pts (3/3 from FT line)

With regard to who is #1, I have to give the nod to Holmes having seen both teams play. I think Holmes has more depth and a better starting five as well. Probably more athletecism top to bottom on Holmes. I also think Holmes should have the edge rebounding. Not to say that SC couldn't beat Holmes, but there is no question in my mind that they deserve the #1 ranking right now.
