As I recall Stephen Lickert, then a senior playing linebacker for the Bluebirds, stopped Bell's ball carrier 3 times in a row at the end of the game. Bell was driving very deep in Highlands territory (I think inside the 10 yard line) and a score would have resulted in a win for Bell County. These defensive plays forced a change of possession giving Highlands the ball and the rest is history. :thumb:

 

After Justin Frisk carried the ball 70 yards over and around all the Bell defenders to about the 20 with less than 3:00 minutes left, then the rest was history.:thumb:

Don't know about the chain gang never heard that one, I would imagine that would be pretty hard to communicate anyway.

 

I had heard that if Dale called a running play, the person holding the down marker would slide his hand either up or down (not sure which way) and would slide it the opposite way if it was a pass play. Someone from Highlands staff caught on and that was the reason they were moved to Bell’s sideline after the half.

This was but one of a few very interesting games between Highlands and Bell County over the years. I thought I heard that it was learned after this game that the Bell County-supplied chain gang was "stealing" play calls from the Highlands sideline and communicating them to the BC sideline during the game... is this true?

Yes IMO they were stealing the plays. I was on the sideline and was by the chain gang many times and 1 tap was run and 2 taps was pass. It wasn't hard to figure out Dale's system then. I was there I know what I saw. But then again maybe just maybe I was seeing things it is JMO.

It's spelled Frisk... And the only circumstances he had is he hadn't played a full game since the beginning of the season. Didn't need to... Justin only played 45 of 60 quarters of play that season. He wasn't hurt, just wasn't needed. Just think if Justin would of played all 60 quarters that year. Can you say Mr. Football...He only managed to average over 10 yards per carry. As far as the Chuke boy, he was sick to his stomach knowing that if he missed the kick then he would of had to ride next to Frisk the bus ride home. Can anybody say Bus #56.:laugh:

I guess in 1992 when Uncle Dudley thought he would create an advantage by moving the game to Thanksgiving Day(So the Highlands fans wouldn't travel) didn't happen as well. So what was the reasoning for that move. I heard Uncle Dudley had a fishing trip to go on the next day.:lol:

I really enjoyed watching the Chaney boy play that day. He was a real treat to watch play. Bell Co. would just line it up and try to run it down your throat. It was a great game to watch....

Also, there is further legal proceedings that will be filed to have the wins that Highlands had earned on the field in 2004 restored based on the courts findings that Highlands was within its right to play the player in question.

 

How about the fact that the kid was denied his lawful right to play in a state championship game by a court system that determined after that fact he had a right to?

 

 

I know that the Bell Cty folks feel very strongly that they were wrongly denied in the game in 04 and will never acknowledge that it was what it was, a tough loss in a good game that was legit but........

The 96 and 04 games were heart-breaking losses for Bell Co. The 2004 games really stings because Bell IMO played better defense (as far as not letting Highlands move the football) and offense(as far as being able to move the football much better than Highlands), but 2 fumbles were the difference in the ball game. And Highlands deserved to win as well.
