Boys Sweet 16 Bracket

Featured Replies

I believe Shelby Valley is the best team in the 15th region since the Paintsville team with J R Vanhoose. They are incredibly talented. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are playing on Saturday morning.

If Elliott does come out of the 16th region (as they should) I will be rooting for them to win it all for our region and area of the state. But I have to admit they got a tough draw. Not so much who they play first more the time they won't finish Thur. night until about 11. Then have to play Clark, Mason, or Shelby Valley of Fri. night finish at 11. Then have to turn around and play Scott or Holmes on Sat. morning. Then if they were to win turn around and play that evening. That would mean to win it all they would have to play 4 games with 3 of them being all against top 25 teams with the Sat. morning game being against the #1 or 2 team. Plus Elliott is really only 5 deep there subs do fine when they are thumping people around here. If the go I hope they could pull it off, but that is a lot to ask.

That was my main point earlier. Going 5 deep and playing up and down the floor means the short turnaround between games is even tougher on EC than the draw.

That would be the 1996 Paintsville team. I just got in from watching Shelby Valley tonight in the All A. We were talking on the way home how this Shelby Valley team remined us of the 1996 Paintsville team. I agree......They do have the talent to be playing Saturday morning.

Paintsville's team last year was very good. They beat a team from what was the 2nd toughest region in the state last year by beating J'town from the 7th region. Then they played Covington Holmes a very tough game as well. This team has a lot to prove before saying they are better than last year's Paintsville team.

Lower bracket looks to be stacked with what could be some awesome games and matchups. If it plays out right it could bring some huge crowds! Sounds like it will be interesting to see who it makes the field of 16.

I agree there is always upsets. As beat up as my Cards are,,,if they win...then it wouldn't be a upset...

Hazard actually isn't the favorite to win. Perry County Central would be the favorite. I think Hazard will win, but they aren't the favorite supposedly.

According to the Cantrell ratings, Hazard is the favorite.

Mason, EC, Shelby Valley, GRC

Could one of these teams be in a good spot if Holmes and Scott County play an epic battle Friday night?

Thats a saturday dream right there. Rupp will be rockin on Friday night well of course of all 4 of them regions aren't upset in the 1st round:D

Very true...all of those who won't get the chance to see SV before state tourny is in for a treat. They are one of those teams people from far away parts will fall in love with

Go back and check the scores. There haven't been many championship games that were blowouts.

The last big blowout was 2003 Mason beat Ballard 86 to 65

Major chicken counting in this thread. I'm glad I have made sure I have plenty of the Rook to go around:

LOL....I know. I aint saying anything except the bottom bracket is murderers row.

In the Lexington paper today it gave the top contenders by region:

BigSpikes--We used to get upset, but now it doesn't even cause us to blink. We now embrace and love the Rodney Dangerfield row. For all those others that want to--bash away. We love people taking us lightly and thinking they are going to wipe the court with us. When we are weak, then are we strong.

I agree we don't match-up with Holmes or Scott County, but then again we didn't match up with about every team at Myrtle Beach that I saw who looked like they had something close to college front lines. Again, keep on bashing and we will keep on smiling and being happy!!! Nothing we ain't heard by now anyway. To the naysayers and bashers--Love you guys.....

I'm not bashing EC, and I am not just another "hater" that has never seen them play. I am a Holmes fan yes, but I have had the opportunity to watch both Elliott and Holmes. I don't think that an Elliott County team that starts 4 players in the 6'1-6'3 range and one at 6'7 matches up favorably with a very long and athletic team. No hating, but I don't think it will be the hardest test of the Sweet 16 for them.

Of course, I am writing off some very good teams; but it was something I have felt all year-that EC did not match up well with Holmes-not just something I wrote to start an argument.

I know the 5th region pretty good and for the Herald-Leader to leave Bardstown out of the top 4 is a huge oversight. Take John Hardin out and put the defending champs in.
