Want to know how bad the roads are in NKy?

 

For only the second time in some odd thirty years or so.... TANK, The Transit Authority of NKy is closed....

 

Due to the weather conditions we are temporarily suspending service from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Service will resume at 3:00 p.m. weather permitting.

Independence roads are driveable.

Looks like my street is driveable too.

I came in this morning, we had 30 rooms to sell. Between those without power, those who can't leave the hotel, those who left and had to come back, we sold all of those in less that an hour.

 

Yeah, I would say that is busier.

Its really getting crazy around the Danville area. There is ice all over everything. Trees are down all over the city. I have some good pics, but I'm not sure how to post them on here because they are so large. They just declared a state of emergency in Lancaster and asked for everyone to stay at home until further notice.

 

I am just praying that I can get through the UK game with power!

 

Well, about 15 minutes after I posted this, we lost power. We had no power all night long and still none today. We had to evacuate to Morehead to stay with family because the city of Danville is also out of water. You could hear trees falling and breaking to the tune of 5 or more a minute all through the night last night. I don't know that there's any trees in Danville that are undamaged. Anyways, we are safe and sound in Morehead and waiting to get an update on Danville before we return.

 

I got to see about 5 minutes of the UK game and listened to part of it on the car radio. I see I didn't miss much :lol:

Just spent a good long while shoveling my driveway. I have no intention of going anywhere really, it was more a precaution than anything else. Still didn't make it any less irritating.

Okay before anyone gets offended the above is 110% a joke meant to make some of those smile that have spent many posts debating this issue.

If I offended anyone with the joke, I apologize immediately.

Louisville main roads are free of snow and ice, but they are still littered with downed trees. I live in the Fern Creek area.

Back roads around NKY are still a bit slick from what I hear. I haven't been and probably won't.

As usual in the country, we don't rely on the government to bail us out from these storms. The farmers are out in masse today on their tractors, clearing roads and other people's driveways free of charge.

I've been out and about up here in N. Ky. for the last hour and a half. Nice coat of ice covering everything, but it wasn't to hard to scrape off the sidewalk with a staight, flat shovel. Came up pretty easy. It's straight rain coming down now. Which means any salt or de icer on the road should work pretty well. I think the roads will be slushy and messy, but not real slick. Their is no power which shut down the main supply of water. The secondary water supply was damaged by the ice. They ordered a generator from Atlanta and some rookie D.O.T. officer in Tennessee would not allow it to pass through his checkpoint for 4+ hours. During that holdup, all available water was used up and the city was totally without water. They are hoping to have the new genorator in place and water back to normal at 5:00 today. There will be a boil water advisory in effect until further notice.

 

For the record, Garrard County was also totally out of water at last notice.

Here is a quote from a KU manager about the situation in Danville:

 

“This is the worst weather-related situation I’ve seen in the 25 years I’ve been with KU,” he said.

I havn't had any trouble at all .Took my wife to work both days and picked her up . Took my son to work both days and picked him up . Paid some bills at Lowe's and Radio Shack . And no I don't have 4 wheel drive , just a front wheel drive Santa Fe , with an automatic stick shift .
