Great win! Brooks seems to have the ability to steal games. This team stole several close ones this year. Believing you can do that is important.

 

And that is a HUGE change from the history of UK football. 'Ole Blue' has quickly become my favorite UK football coach.

While the crowd in Memphis wasn't as "Blue" as Nashville the last couple of years, those of us there had a blast. Great game, I just got home finally...Beale St., Tunica, 3 Bowl wins in a row...I dread work tommorrow.

I think he was down. It was as close as it gets but I think the replay crew made the right call. Again, the officials on the field were as bad as I have seen in a while.

 

I thought the first play was a fumble and should have been a UK TD.

 

I thought the second play was a fumble that UK recovered with a knee down...it should have been UK ball at their own 40.

 

So, the end result was right, IMO, but the officials missed both calls.

We have a digital cable box/DVR in our family room and the TV in our bedroom just has the cable hooked straight to the TV. If both TV's are on you can hear them both standing in the hall. The family TV is close to a full second behind the TV in the bedroom. The radio is usually on time with the bedroom TV. Maybe why yours isn't in sync if you are using a cable box.

I think it is time to say that short of Bear Bryant, Rich Brooks is the best football coach UK has ever had. The thing that I notice is that his players truely love him and would run through a wall for him. If you heard the interview with David Jones after the game would know what I'm talking about.

Every player I talked to love and respect the man. They have all said that regardless of who you are, he is totally honest and you know exactly where you stand with him, good or bad.

 

I wasn't alive when Bryant was the coach, so I can honestly say that Brooks have become my favorite UK coach. I understand much better now why they loved him in Oregon and named the field after him.

He is the definition of a "straight shooter".

 

UK has been lucky to find this old style football coach, although the fan base took a long time to see it!

UK is one of only 4 SEC teams right now to have three consecutive winning seasons.

14-0 in non-conference games the last few years.

Tonight was big because it creates some positive mojo heading into the spring.

Still need to grab a RB in recruiting...may be down to two RB's this spring...

UK still has a ways to go....they have to find a way to crack into the top 4 of the SEC East. They need to knock USC out of the way. The Gamecocks are sputtering but have managed to get past UK. If UK can clear that hurdle then they can start making pilgrimages to the Outback and Capital One games.

Give Brooks credit...when he took over UK was lying in the crib, and he got us to sitting up and crawling, then a little walking...getting a W for the third straight year in a rebuilding year with all the personnel losses...the program has broken into a jog....but more than anything he has changed the culture of the program.

 

Couldn't agree with you more... Brooks deserves a lot of credit in hanging with the program and taking it where it has never gone before. IMO, when Brooks decides to leave UK, the program will be in great shape!

I was down but that had nothing to do with it. I'm a SEC fan but not all teams. I'm not a UK fan at all in any sport. My aunt and uncle lives in Greenville NC that was one reason I was rooting for ECU.

Nice post. I had a nephew on the team when Brooks first came here. It took a little adjustment time (new coaches almost always do) but my nephew quickly ended up loving Brooks. He said just what you and others have said: straight shooter; didn't mince words and didn't compromise values. As a result, I've always, and I mean always, been a supporter of his. On some other UK sites, I was one of his few supporters and regularly got lambasted for it. So I'm happy for being vindicated by his success and even happier for him, his daughter (who also posted on the other site and got skewered worse than a pig going on a spit) and the UK players for the football team's success. Great job coaches and players. Well done.

 

I hope this is a good lesson for posters that way too often want to quickly rush to judgment on a coach for not having immediate success on all levels of sports, but particularly high school sports where the coaches get paid peanuts compared to what college and pro coaches do.

I supported him on here and took a little bit of grief, but there were many like me that thought he deserved a fair shot. He took over a horrible situation and given the support of the administration, his integrity and patience, he has turned the program into one UK fans can be proud of.

 

My son has a former teammate from HS is on football scholarship at UK and both he and his family sing his praises as a person and a coach. They also have a lot of positive things to say about Joker, Smith, Ortmeyer, Sanders and Steve Brown. I like the fact that he has done it the right way. When friends of mine in Oregon told me what a class act UK was getting I didn't fully understand. No offense to CM Newton, but let's be honest, Brooks and Barnhardt have done more for the football program than Newton ever did. If he keeps it up, I hope when he retires they rename the field after him just like they did at Oregon.

I read some quotes from David and he was very appreciative of the staff at UK. He commented about being proud that they could get this win for Coach Brooks. Jones himself was a HUGE part of why it happened!!! I will bet that he will never forget that KOR TD for the rest of his life. What a great memory to have!!! :thumb:

I remember my dad saying that Mumme reminded him of a snake oil salesman and there was something about him he just didn't trust. The first time he hear Brooks speak in his brutally honest fashion, his comment was along the lines of 'I like this guy. He tells the truth whether you want to hear it or not'.

 

He reminded me of a football coach I played freshman ball for who had played for Bear Bryant at UK. Tough but cared about his kids. Maybe that's why I like him so much!

If UK inks all of their commits, I think we are one more really solid recruiting class away from getting over that hump of mediocrity.
