Virginia Tech 20 UC 7

No excuse for Pike to not have scored on the bootleg. I was actually cheering for a second when he got around the corner, as it looked like a sure-fire TD. Took an impressive lack of effort on his part to not get in.

Compare that with the TD run by Taylor in the 2nd quarter when he absolutely undressed Manalac and then humiliated Smith. Two of about 200 missed tackles by the Cats on the night.

Just a bad game.. You could tell who had been there before and who hadn't. Too bad, I don't see UC getting there next year seeing they lose 10 on D. Also seemed like VT had a strength advantage. I'm another who was asking why we didn't see Grutza for a series or two.

Pretty bummed, but it was a great season and an amazing time getting to cover this team.

Byrd was a monster on D, but the rest of the unit didn't make the plays. A lot of credit there goes to VPI though. I thought what they did to establish the run was brilliant. Early on they were running counters, traps, end arounds and everything else they could think of and when UC adjusted they ran it right up the gut. Hats off to the Hokies there. They made a very veteran group think instead of just reacting and it resulted in a 2-1 time of posession.

Pike was bad, and a lot of the play calling had the guys up in the press box scratching our heads at times.

Tough loss, but a great ride to get there. 10 starters gone on D next year but almost all of the O returning. Replacing Goodie will be a chore. Thanks Cats. It's been a great ride...

Pike was indeed bad, very bad. And yes, the play calling wasn't much better. I believe it was still 7-0 UC and they had some pretty good momentum going on their second possesion and on 3rd and 4 I believe it was they ran the ball for maybe a yard. It was then that I began questioning the play calling.

All and all UC had a great season and the future looks bright as well.

My thoughts exactly on that play.

Tech looked good. If Tyrod Taylor keeps improving they could be scary good the next few yeas. Is "Macho" Harris gone? Their "D" was nasty last night.

Disappointing end to a great season. Thanks UC for a great ride!

As for the play of Pike, he looked like a world beater in the 1st series. VT changed some things up to flush him from the pocket where he is obviously less effective. As for the 4th and goal play, it's easy to 2nd guess that one. At 1st I thought it was a busted play, but after seeing it on replay it looked to be a designed play. Just not a good choice. Congrats to UC on a great season.

Bad game for Cincy but if you had told me they would be in the Orange Bowl playing VT then I'll refrain from saying what I would say to you :) Kelley wasn't very good last night but he his track record speaks for itself IMO. Congrats on a great season to the Bearcats!

Color blindness?

 My exact thoughts.

Good to see VT get the win!!

Harris is gone, and I'm not sure about the rest of the defense. Offensively, their 3 receivers and running back are freshmen, and the QB is a sophomore. Also, Boone (TE) is an underclassman, just not sure of the year. They're the 3rd, or 6th, youngest team in Div1.

VPI is just a really nice team, and they are young in a lot of areas..hence they had some up and down games this year.

UC other than Oklahoma, didn't really play anyone with a similar skill set across the board. VPI has a quite a few kids on their rosters that will make the next level.

Pike didn't play well, but give it up to the Hokie D...UC hasn't seen a lot of that skill and speed.

Add Beamer and Foster to the equation and you get what you got last night.

I thought UC would win, because VPI has been a little erratic at times, and I thought their defense would perform better.

All in all a great ride as some have mentioned...and there are far worse places to spend a week than in South Beach.

Poor tackling will cost you games every time. I'm not going to lay all of the blame on Pike but he hurt us bad last night. This in no way takes anything away from the great season the Cats had.

Victor Harris is gone.

I was thinking a lot along the same lines. Their misdirection plays put UC's D on their heels all night. Good playcalling. And on the interception of the screen play on the 10, that was just simply a brilliant play...

UC's D missed a lot of tackles too. And I couldn' figure out why didn't run a run play it seemed like the entire first half. By the time they figured out they could run it pretty effectively, there wasn't enough time to.

All in all there is nothing to complain about as a Bearcat fan. Hats off to these seniors that have taken the program to new heights. If there is ever a national championship won at UC, they should look back to this class for changing things. Its really a shame the game played out the way it did. They definately deserved better.

Heres to you, Cats...

Nothing wrong with ending your season, in the Orange Bowl. The Bearcats had an outstanding year and represented, the Big East well.

Recruiting should benefit greatly from this season.
