The Litratings are a computerized power ranking of each team in Kentucky based on a formula that includes record, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

 

Should read something like record, strenth of schedule and how much you can run up the score on your opponent.

It's because that some people are unable to see past the we're only #5 and Elliott County is #1. The author of the article appears to have the same syndrome while most are unable to graciously give Elliott County congratulations or credit.

I would venture to say that most people know that Holmes is the true #1 team in the state.

The threads will continue until EC wins the state title. When any of the Golden Triangle contenders fall short of a state title, it will be chalked up to a bad night. If EC falls short, then it will be trumpeted as proof that the team's schedule failed to prepare them for the big time. That is just how it is for eastern Kentucky teams in any sport. The attitude only changes after multiple state titles.

 

In other words, Belfry can play a relatively weak football schedule without such criticism because they have state titles to prove the a team does not have to play a "top ten" schedule to be the top team in the state.

 

EC returned most of its team from a year ago and has played a strong enough schedule to establish itself as a legitimate contender for its first state title. Those who think otherwise will be convinced by nothing short of a state title. Most people who can read a box score already know that Elliot County is for real.

I really don't care whether or not Holmes is ranked now. However, it makes for fodder to fill up threads like this. The only ranking that really matters is threefold. Number 1 after the district tourny, number 1 after the regional tourny, and number 1 after the Sweet Sixteen.

Rankings are irrelevant. They mean nothing. We don't field and seed 64 teams like the NCAA. College coaches don't survey the rankings as a recruiting tool. You don't get awarded points before a game starts because your in the top 5. The most important wins are your regualr season district games and winning your region. Everything else is just improving from game to game to hopefully peak in February and March. Every team in the top 5 is BEATABLE.
