I would of known what you meant, and understood. I think most of us alums realize what he's been able to do with these kids, not only on the court, but in other aspects of life. There were some not so good things that happend a few years back, and from what I've been told, that was the turning point. These kids respect him and they prove it by doing whats asked of them. Some may say, that's what their suposed to do, but like you said earlier, most don't realize the culture change. Holmes has had some pretty good Coaches in the past, Reynolds Flynn, and Mike Fylnn come to mind. But in all the years I've been watching Holmes, I've never seen Teams as diciplined as Coach Henley's. Hope he plans on being a Bulldog for years to come.

 

Not too many coaches can say they played and coached in the State Finals and Henley can certainly say that. I hope he gets a taste of victory at that stage later this year because he deserves it.

 

On the 8th grader McClendon, if they dress him later fine it will only build his confidence. However, I don't see him being much of a factor this year. Holmes will take their first 6 or 7 against anyone and everyone and if that doesnt work then they will take it like a man. Staying out of foul trouble as a team is the biggest thing and they have been able to do that so far because they are more disciplined then past teams.

 

Congrats on the huge win over the Defenders in their house. Ladies and Gentleman this is your states best team hands down.

I think it's way too early to say secret weapon at this point... He's good and will be great if he continues to do the right things... I wouldn't say 25 average a game with Summit but it might have been around 15 to 18 a game... 6th grade Summit went 34-0 winning it all and 7th grade he left to go to Two Rivers... (Maybe 12 to 15 a game that year)... Sound be interesting when he does get the call...

After listening to the game and now seeing the stats, Riley had a "quiet" 14 for Holmes and I would like to know what Holmes changed up defensively to slow down Ashford and Richardson. They were hot early in the 1st quarter. The radio broadcast never mentioned what Holmes was doing different defensively.

You may be right, but Franklin Co. has a nice Team as well. They are now 7-0 with wins against the likes of Mason Co. and Butler. I believe their headed to New York to play in a tournament there next.

 

Wow, another possible top 10 matchup for Holmes. What an amazing early schedule for Holmes. Looks like the Dogs will play anybody, anywhere, anytime. And I mean anytime literally.

 

Franklin County is good team, but not on the tier with Holmes and Scott County and probably several others such as Manual, J-town etc. However, Franklin county has a way to make you play ugly, and they board well.

Will there be a rematch in regular season between Holmes and Scott?

Since it is Christmas, I would like to see Holmes play Elliott County. I should have mentioned them in the top tier as well.

Baseballguy was the one who said he was their secret weapon...not me. I personally don't think he'd be ready this year to contribute. He isn't big or strong enough yet, but like I said, the talent is definetly there.

 

As far as the Summit View teams, I remember them very well. My little cousin Jared was the starting PG for them. With him and Christian in the starting lineup together, they never lost a game and between the two, averaged around 35-40 ppg combined.

 

I'd expect Henley to give Mcclendon some experience late in the year just to get his feet wet. He did the same with Duran Jefferson his 8th grade year, and IMO Mcclendon will turn out to be better than Jefferson..

MYSELF....this is my opinion! I would have to see Holmes/SCott Co again to pick a ..clearcut # 1.. You know BS beat holmes, Holmes beat Scott...now Holmes beat BS. Its possible that Scott could come back and beat them by 8-10 just like they came back and beat BS by 18 after BS beat them by 14. Once again is there a Scott/Holmes rematch in near future?

Only rematch would be at RUpp.

 

I find it hard to believe that Holmes isn't the clear cut #1 team though. Were you at the SC/Holmes game? Holmes dominated and the game was never in question, leading by around 12 the whole game. With 4 minutes to go J.Johnson got a cramp and had to come out for 2 minutes which is when SC started making their run to close within 5.

 

The way Holmes is playing right now, I find it hard to believe anyone would beat them at this point.

I know there are a lot of 8th graders playing high school basketball this year, but none of them are playing for teams the caliber of Holmes. And while I think McClendon is a good player, I think the rating of No. 7 for the class of 2013 in KY is way too high. He may develop into that in the next year or two, but let's slow down thinking he will make any impact at Holmes this year. If it happens, that will not be a good thing for Holmes (something else would have to cause this -- injury, etc.).
