George will be fine. He's an exceptional athlete. He, like all the other juniors being thrusted into leadership positions and roles, will have up and down games throughout the year. It's tough to lose Simpson and McGraw and all of a sudden become responsible for all the things necessary to win while becoming the main targets of your opponents. Come tourny time, the Birds should settle down, level off and be very good. But in the meantime, I think we should all expect to see erratic play from game to game.

I was talking with one of the boys parents last night about experience, and really only Stevie K and Ben Watson have much experience. I also look for this squad to be very good by the end of Feb.

The Birds did a great job of executing fundamental passes and didnt make any turnovers that I saw in the 2nd half.

Very true and that is why next season they will be even that much better and compete once again with the Boone's, Holmes' and Ryles for the Regional title. JMO

Trust me...Highlands will be their toughest game. They are fundamentally sounds both offensively and defensively and have more depth than either team mentioned.

George Grote saw extensive action last year after the injuries to Nic Simpson and Greg McGraw. Tyler Grubbs also saw some time later in the year as well.

 

This bus is going to go as far as George Grote takes them. I still think that he might be there best player when right. Grubbs has come along nicely after football season and is definitely a load inside. Look for Coner Crowley to possibly begin seeing some more minutes come January.

I'd be surprised to see Highlands score 50 on Holmes.

George did see a lot of action and actually started. Grubbs is a load and will help them as well. I really think they will be a very good basketball team as the season progresses. Lother is adding some offense with some 3pters lately as well. Gordon has a nice handle and doesnt turn it over much at all. Dill can get you 6-8 pts and some boards as well as handle it against the press.

 

Should be a very good test for them this weekend againts a some 11th Region teams.

Just going on what this parent and I discussed. I caught a handful of games last season. I do know the person who told me this was at every game.

Newport needs to improve on their defensive play. Seems like when they get down they loose focus on the game. They want to start throwing up a bunch of threes and not really making a lot of them in the process. Newport has alot of talent that hopefully Russell will harness before the Districts start. Perhaps it's time to sit some players on the bench until they can realize they need to listen to their coaches. I did notice that #40 on their JV team plays hard in the middle so maybe give him some play time on varsity.
