Highlands beats Bell and Boyle and wins 3A by 3 td's I watched evey team mentioned play and if they play 10 times Highlands wins 9 out of 10 no matter where the game is played.Bell might have won a couple of more in their past if it wasn't for Highlands. Best thing ever happened for Boyle and Bell is this new classification system.5 A is alot tougher than 4A in my opinion.

 

The way the system is designed, why wouldn't 5a be tougher than 4a? Don't they have a larger talent pool to build their team on? It's like saying "In my opinion, 5a is alot tougher than 2a", but that doesn't stop anyone from playing in it, now does it? By the way, what is the current record when Highlands and Boyle meet in Louisville? Last I checked, it was pretty close, and it was definately not a no brainer to root for Boyle when they did match up there.

Central was 3A in 06 so I would assume they would be 3A again if we went back to a 4 class system.

I doubt it. The change came because of the use of the number of boys in a school to determine classification. Central has way more girls than boys in the school, at least by the figures I have seen.

 

Besides, why wouldn't the dividing line between 3A and 4A now be the dividing line between 2A and 3A in a four-class setup?

As would us Boyle fans. I don't think any of us Boyle countians have said Bell was "LUCKY" to beat us or to be in the state game. They played their tails off all season and "EARNED" their way there. Yes, some plays went their way, and some went Boyles, we made costly mistakes at key times during that particular game, but at the end of the game, i'm sure neither team felt that the other team wasn't good enough to go to Louisville. I know this Boyle fan would have taken a little more luck that night on log mountain.

Before I take a shot at this can someone tell me what changed at Bullitt East from early in the season to the end of the season? After watching them get destoryed by an average at best Henderson Co I was surprised to 1. see them make the final game and 2. see them not get blown out in the final. Was 4A just that weak or did Bullitt East just get that good?

 

BE changed the offense and the man calling the plays. They also moved some kids into different postions. The RB was a TE before the change, and he was a horse for that offense. Very strong and ran hard. A perfect fit for the Wishbone. Not take nothing away from BE but Bell played as bad as any Bell team has in years in the first 1 1/2 quarters of the game. Played off of their heels if you know what I mean? Seemed very tight and timid. That in itself made BE look even better. In the second Half they dominated but still did not score on couple of redzone possesions. BE had ZERO 1st downs in the 2nd half until 4 minutes left in the 4th.

Whitley ran the ball at will on HHS in the early going fell behind and had to throw. Neither Whitley, JCHS, or Christain Co. played defense like Bell. Granted Bell played terrible in the finals but I would think if they faced HHS they would have played at the top of their game in the Final or Semi's however it would have stacked up. They really overlooked BE I belive. Much like HHS overlooked Bryan Station.

 

 

I'm not saying Bell couldnt win the title of the old 3A but it would be rough. Johnson Central had moved down to 3A so Bell would have had to beat them in the Regional Championship Game, then beat Highlands, and turn around and beat Louisville Central, or perhaps Boyle on turf. It would have not been easy for them.

You should have come over to Ft Thomas to see it. It wasn't close. In fact it was a shut-out, 28-0 on November 7th.

According to their enrollment,Highlands has alot less boys than Boyle or Bell. The KHSAA let them play up.

I have rarely seen a mountain team be able to stop a multi-dimensional offense. When Bell Co. almost beat HHS in 2004 they were simply a running team. HHS this year could run and throw.. I think the Birds would beat Bell by at least 3 scores..JMO

 

In 96 Bell lost to Higlands 17-14 I think (someone can correct me if I am wrong) on a long field goal. It would have been a tall task to beat Highlands, but I think it would have been very possible for Bell.

They were very good and the kicker was a tough cat to clean up after. They (Bell) handled a "multi-dimensional" team in Boyle County, whether by luck or skill. Boyle was the real deal this year as well. Rockcastle scrimmaged them (Boyle) at camp in the summer. Bullitt East was also at the same camp, and no offense to BE, but I never dreamed that I was looking at the state runner up at that camp. They really pulled it together to win out, whether it be by luck or skill. We'll never know who would win a Bell vs. Highlands matchup now and the point is moot. But to say that mountain teams can't stop the multi dimensional offense is a bit of a reach. Yeah mountain teams not being able to play against multi-dimensional offenses is very inaccurate. I remember in 2002 Dunbar had a great team and made it to the state semis. They were beat by Bell Co. 2 years ago Bell almost beat a great Bryan Station team (when 7 or 8 of these seniors who just won a state title were sophomores. Rockastle had an unbelievable defense for about 3 years, and shut everyone down basically, but Boyle Co.

They actually missed the 1st attempt, but there was a illegal procedure call or something that Bell couldn't decline. Kick was pushed back 5 yds and he made the second attempt from around 50 yds.
