Clark vs Montgomery! This rivalry has always been intense but in the past few years it might have gotten a little out of hand! I know for fact that this rivalry is very physical as I have witnessed almost every game of every sport between these two teams for the past 5 years or so.

Paris vs. Bourbon ????

Estill vs. Montgomery used to be a very intense rivalry. Bart Rison left Estill to go to Montgomery Co. and this led to a TON of hatred between these two schools. Of course this was back in the '80's and 90's when they were in the same district and played twice a year. Good, clean fun. hahaha

Conner versus Boone

 

This Friday at Boone. both teams are 3-0.

Back when I played ball, Conner and Boone were big rivals. Always lots of fun in those games.

 

How far back is "back when I played?"

Old Days: Mt. Sterling High vs. Montgomery County. The last year they existed they were not allowed to play during the regular season.

With Bethlehem - Nelson Co. - Bardstown you get a little bit of every dynamic with a small private Catholic school, huge county school and a small city school. It's pretty interesting, and the fans turn out in big numbers for a game when these schools butt heads. Nelson plays Bethlehem in a boys-girls DH on Friday, and Bethlehem's little gym will be jam-packed.

Didn't last long but this was a good rivalry for a few years. Played in it myself. It was even more heated on the baseball field in the late 80's and early 90's.

 

Estill has also developed some pretty heated rivalries in basketball with Powell County and Lee County since joining the 14th region.

 

In the 16th, Boyd/Ashland is an oldie but a goodie.

 

I would anticipate Mason/Clark turning into a good one in the next 2 to 3 years with the talent each program has.

Lewis County vs Tollesboro back in the day.

Mercer Co. vs Harrodsburg

Intense!

The biggest thing that I had against the merger was the loss of this rivalry. They would play at least twice a year and sometimes 3 to 4 times with the gym being packed for every game.

I hated to see this one go.

Holmes vs Cov. Cath. They met in the last two 9th region championship game.

The Clark- Montgomery games are always intense in basketball and football. It reached a boiling point a few years back when Montgomery had a really good Quarterback who did it all in basketball too. I was almost assaulted at Cardinal stadium when I probably yelled twenty times "is that all you got" and I was sitting too close to the Montgomery side and made them angry. We lost that game I believe.

There was also two students suspended for dressing up one as a cardinal the other as a gorrilla and tryed to run across the field at halftime. For some reason I don't know Montgomery is called Monkey town and I beleive they take offense to it so naturally it is used against them.

Adair County vs. Taylor County. Always a great game when these two play each other. They play this Friday night at Taylor Co. both teams 3-0. I will be there.
