Intense High School Basketball rivalries

Featured Replies

Ashland/Boyd Co.

They maybe aren't as strong as they used to be in the 16th, but an unbelievable environment whenever they play.

From everything I heard the Maysville/Mason Co. games were truly something to see. Of course Maysville high school has been closed for nearly 20 years. But I would have loved to see some of those games.

The Maysville/Mason Co. game was truly one of the great rivalries of Ky. high school sports. The intensity was that of any rival but the event itself was something to behold. It is the reason Mason Co. a school of a about 800 to 900 students is considered a KY. State power. A Love for the Game!

Mason Co. rivals

1) Fleming Co. (closest similar sized school)

2) Clark Co. (also basketball rich school)

3) Lex. Catholic (another state power)

4) Montgomery Co. (stole our event!)

5) Scott Co. (some great games between these 2)

In the 12th there are several cross-town rivals. East and West Jess., Danville-Boyle, Somerset-Pulaski-Southwestern. I would definately consider those the best rivalries in the region. Many of the students and players know each other and have since they were kids and often they live near each other and that brings a whole new level of intensity to the games. The Somerset vs PC or SW games at Somerset's crackerbox gym make for some of the best atmosphere that you will find anywhere in the region.

The first Dayton vs Bellevue game of this year is tomorrow... I'm sure it will live up to its billing as an intense rivalry...

Grant County Vs Williamstown is always a battle.

Anyone at the game tonight would attestg to that. One of the most electric atmospheres I have been around in a long while. It was as intense as a district or region championship game.

South Laurel vs Corbin

North Laurel vs South Laurel

Hazard vs Perry Central

Clay County vs Jackson County

Back when Frankfort was in it's prime.

Franklin co.

Western hills.

All schools 5 min drive a part.

Hazard and Perry County Central has become too much of a rivalry, to the point that they're not even going to schedule one another starting next year. A rivalry is a good thing I think, but Hazard-PCC has too much tension in my opinion. Everyone in that area needs to calm down just a little.

If there's a more intense, bigger rivalry in the state than these two, then I don't want to be at the game, lol. Tape it for me and I'll watch it later.

I agree. I can't imagine a more intense rivalry. They would fill a gym for a chess match between the Commodores and the Bulldogs.
