Highlands / Cov Cath is really the rivalry that spans multiple sports.

 

Nothing beats the feeling of a Holy Cross / Holmes in the small Latonia confines.

No doubt that Holmes versus CCH is the biggest rivalry in N. Ky. because of the longevity. Holmes vs. CCH was the game to be at before HHS even knew basketball was a sport. I think it would be hard to match this rivalry anywhere in the state in longevity and success of the two programs over the past 40 years.

I agree Holmes/Cov.Cath is hands down the biggest rivalry. When they play at Cov. Cath fans start showing up at 4:30 just to get a seat. When they played the 9th region championship game at Holmes Rice, Hill, and Jeffersons last year you could not move in there. It was like nothing Ive witnessed in the 9th, and the players lived up to the moment as the game went to overtime and was won on freethrows. Cov. Cath and Holmes flat out hate each other in basketball.

Very rarely does it fill up the fieldhouse like it used to. I still think Covcath-Holmes is the biggest rivalry in nky and is also a fan favorite that a lot will show up for year in and year out.

 

And actually it'd be, get there for the GIRLS game or you don't get in. When these two play, it's always a girl/boy doubleheader for the city championship.

Back when I was at Elliott County (30+ years ago) it was always Elliott County and East Carter but I heard that's not the case anymore.:cry:

Paris vs. Bourbon ????

 

The Paris vs. Bourbon rivalry used to be one of the best around. It would be a media spotlight, with front page coverage in the herald leader as well as lead story on the news. Now, with both programs in shambles, it has turned into an average game. The two played each other a couple of weeks ago and the stands were hardly full. It is very sad to see a once rich rivalry die out.

On the other hand, I think Montgomery and Clark is a great rivalry, as well as Scott County and Lexington Catholic.

I think this debate is almost as accurate as carbon dating in showing N. Ky. basketball fans ages. Anyone who picks Highlands vs. CovCath over Holmes vs CovCath is too young to remember basketball before 1985. :lol:

Highlands vs Covcath is historically a great rivalry and usually fills both teams' gyms, but I can't see any rivalry in NKY coming close to the rivalry of Holmes and Covcath. The region championship has ran through those two teams the past four years and throw in the fact that they're in the same district and the rivalry is even more heated. It will year in and year out draw the biggest crowds of the year.

Most rivalries just seem to occur when two teams are up and in contention for the region for a number of years.

State-wide, there seems to be an intense rivalry with Male vs. Manual, Lexington Catholic vs. Scott County, Covington Catholic vs. Highlands, Elizabethtown vs. North Hardin (an intense one that I was suprised not to have seen mention of), and any of the Hopkinsville area teams (Christian Co., Hopkinsville, University Heights),
