Are there any card collectors on BGP?

 

Basketball, baseball, football?

 

I've got quite a few baseball & basketball cards. I'm looking to get a few of them professionally graded, but I don't know where to take them?

I don't actively call myself a collector these days, but I have a few thousand basketball cards. I've got all the big names, but I don't think I have any cards of any significant value.

 

My personal prized card is an Antoine Walker rookie card... I know that it has no value at all, but as a huge Celtics fan and a huge Kentucky fan, I was pumped to get that card. Above the Michael Jordan cards, behind the Shaq cards, behind the Kobe cards... That 'Toine card remains my favorite. Weird, I know.

 

Any cards that I may have had of any value wouldn't be now, though. I have moved so much I can almost guarantee they are all bent in spots.

I used to have a lot when I was younger...but kinda gave it up when I got into high school and totally quit since college. I have a lot sitting in a box in my basement somewhere, lol. Only a couple that would probably be worth anything.

Pretty much how I am. I wonder sometimes if I have any good ones but its really not worth my time to go through them.

I used to buy the magazines back in the day that told the value of certain cards... Most of the ones I had were never even listed in those... But I think the most valuable card I own is a Hakeem card. It was worth $10 or so back in '96. Maybe $11 now if I'm lucky.

I have a lot of cards that are not worth anything. Those are the ones I personally purchased and are the overwhelming majority of my collection. I have a few shoeboxes full of those.

 

But then I have these basketball cards that were a wedding gift from my uncle in the early 90's. 1986-1987 Fleer Complete Set. That's Jordan, Ewing, Malone, Drexler, Bird, Abdul-Jabbar, etc.

I used to spend hours trying to look up the value of my cards, alphabetizing them, and all that business. Spent a lot of time on it when I was younger.

Used to be really big into collecting cards and even worked at Home Plate card shop in Newport when I was like 13. My favorite card was a sweet Vince Carter Rookie that I had. I think I still got it somewhere.

I had tons of great cards from the '60s and '70s and many more from the less-valuable '80s that all got stolen some 20 years ago. Now, all I've got is about 50 or so that I've picked up since then.

My son has a plethora of baseball cards. I should say I have a plethora of baseball cards. :lol: He's left them all here.

My buddy collects Cal Ripken Jr. cards, he's got an awful lot of 'em too.

I collected back in the late 80s and early 90s when cards kind of saturated the market. I bought a lot of stuff that is pretty much worthless now, but I also picked up some older cards. I'm 7 cards short of a 1957 Topps baseball set, for example. I have a pretty neat Cincy Reds collection that goes back to tobacco cards. Missing the first few Rose cards, but there are some nice ones in the collection as well.

 

I just wish I had put ALL the money I spent on cards those 3-5 years into older cards and sets.

I am pretty sure that is probably how my mom feels as well, lol.

I have a bunch of Basketball and Baseball cards..

 

Big Red Machine, MJ, Nolan Ryan and Griffey Jr dominate the collections..
