My son sold his collection a few years ago to a local card shop owner. His collection contained Jordan's from his 2nd year until his retirement along with many other big name Rookie cards. All were graded. He banked approx. $1500 after the sale.

I have enough cards to wallpaper my house. I would like to get the good ones graded and make some money, but it just seems like so much work.

It is a lot of work trying to get everything done correctly!! If you know of a local card shop in your area maybe talk with the owner and let him know that you have a collection for sale. If you have cards of value, he will show interest in your collection. If he is not interested, he may steer you in the direction of someone who is.

If you find a buyer I suggest making the deal. You'll be surprised how much more room you'll have in your closets.:lol:

I was a HUGE card (mostly NBA) collector back when I was 10 or so. I would buy the Beckett's, look up almost all my cards, write the price on a little piece of paper & slide it in the slot of my protective sleeve thingy's :lol:. I spent bundles & bundles of time doing that. I still occasionally grab a pack of NBA cards up at Wal*Mart. I'd almost start back hardcore collecting but in a way it is such a money racket.

I used to spend hours trying to look up the value of my cards, alphabetizing them, and all that business. Spent a lot of time on it when I was younger.

 

Ah yes I remember those days. BTW, nest time I'm really broke maybe I'll turn to my cards.

:lol: Wow I completely forgot I had a book full of basketball cards until I read this. I had like a huge 2 inch binder full of them with pages full of sleeves to hold them all.

I still have a stack of cool ones that I like to look at every once in a while.

Including gems such as Penny Hardaway, Rick Smits, Stockton, Malone, Olajuwon. I have tons of Penny Hardway's actually. He was the man.

That is the fun part of collecting. My son and I spent hours and hours with our Becketts looking them up and putting them in hard plastic. He is 24 now and I will always cherish those times!

You have to send them off to get them professionally graded. There is no other way. Make sure that they are fairly high value cards or it isnt worth it financially. But if you do have some nice cards, having them graded is definitely worth it. And they come back sealed in plastic as to retain their value for the life of the card.
