BE wins this are on a roll as of late. Home field advantage carrries them to the state finals.

How good are either of these teams? Is either one capable of beating Bell or Boyle County in the finals?

Calloway County is also on a roll, and is starting to play their best football. If you want to play, "shoulda-woulda", they "should" be 13-0. Their loss to Marshall County was a total fluke, as that was the week before their much anticipated rematch with Lone Oak. Most foke are sure the Lakers just looked past Marshall. As for the Lone Oak game, they were tied with under a minute to play, and CC was deep in LO territory. All they had to do was run down the clock, kick a field goal for the win. Instead, they do something stupid and throw an interception, allowing LoneOak to go down the field and win on a FG at the last second. One of the most dramatic games I've ever seen.

As for what Calloway has? They have an offensive line that gets better every week. They have one of the best QB's in the state in Casey Brockman, who, if not pressured, will pick apart most defenses with a plethora of receivers who can all do something with the ball after the catch. And oh, did I forget to mention Tyrell Willis? A junior, 6-3, 245 lb monster running back. If he gets a head of steam, it's like trying to stop a stud bull. He can also catch the ball, and he has even been known to throw the ball on certain plays. Has not had an off night in nearly two months. The only thing missing with Willis is a pair of blue tights and a red cape. Worth the price of admission, just to look at him. Not to say BE can't win this game, but it will take a little luck.

You have not mentioned anything about their defense? If they can't play defense then they will have a hard time stopping Bullitt East. Most of the teams from the west don't play very good defense as well as their offense.

To answer your question, I think this game is CC's to lose. BE has to do 3 things defensively. 1, is put a LOT of pressure on Brockman, and get him out of his comfort zone. That won't be easy to do, as Brockman is a senior, well-seasoned, and doesn't rattle easily. 2. They'll have to find a way to stop Tyrell Willis. In the last 2 months, nobody has. Depending upon the game plan, Willis will likely get a lot of yards rushing, and will play a key role in the Laker's success. 3. BE will have to find a way to successfully cover several other receivers, who can all run well after the catch. Man coverage? Zone? I dunno. Nobody's really made it work yet. Just know that if Willis and Brockman were all CC had, BE might be more of a favorite. But, Willis's success is largely due to CC having more than just a couple of great players. CC also has a very good kicking game in Garrett Schwettman. Wish I could make the game.

I would say Commander, that if CC has exposure to any kryptonite, their opening defense is not as good as their offense. CC got down early to Hopkins Central in their second round playoff game, (21-7 I think it was) before winning 28-21. Then, down 14-0 to Allen County before winning 42-26. It seems to take a little while for CC's defense to get in the groove. Getting down early to BE wouldn't be a surprise. But CC has the ability to make adjustments where they are needed, and I think they can handle BE, if the Lakers are as driven and focused as they should be. If BE does get the early lead, I'd say they need to keep mixing it up, to keep the CC defense off balance, and keep the pedal to the floor. You can't let up against CC and expect them to give up. Should be a great game. Westsider might be able to offer more insight on specifix with CC defense.

This theme is starting to sound familiar. Calloway defense was not supposed to stop the big ACS running game and their stable of good RBs. And, the Lakers weren't supposed to be able to stop Courtney Dalcourt and Co. either. Lakers are rolling, believing in themselves, and have shown they're capable of comeback rallies all season starting from their first game vs. Murray. If they get out to a lead they're even tougher. One other thing to add - Brockman throws very well on the run and always keeps his eyes up field. Ground/air balance is what makes CC a tough team to defend. Calloway knows it's one game at a time. One game at a time. They won't be looking past a good BE team. Go Lakers!
