Same post as I have made the past few weeks, if CC stays committed to giving Willis the ball, they can win. If they get pass happy it helps Bullit East. I am not saying this as a negative towards Brockman; he is a way above average high school QB. But Willis is Calloway's best RB and player. Feed him the ball.

Bullitt East 28-21.

Most of the teams that go to the gun and air it out all over the place usually have a hard time stopping a heavy run oriented attack like Bullitt East. I'm guessing Bullitt East gets a few stops whereas Calloway doesn't. Something along the lines of 42-21 in favor of East.

 

While Bell/Boyle will be the heavy favorites, I think East will make for the better match-up. If nothing else because they will try to control the clock in order to keep the other off the field.

 

Calloway wins, then Bell/Boyle in a blowout. East wins, then it will definately be a better game and quite possibly make for a very interesting match up.

 

From what I have heard and seen on the scoreboard, East is on a roll. Their last loss was a 24-23 defeat that ended in 2OT's to Louisville Manual team that onlylost 3 games, two of them at the hands of St. X. This same Manual team beat Lou. Central, Manual, Ballard, Shelby County, PRP, etc. this year.

 

Just an outsiders take, but to whoever the winner of the Boyle/Bell game is then I wouldn't count my chickens too soon--that is if East is to win.

Nobody's been paying attention to the posts. Willis is AVERAGING 200 yards rushing in the first three playoff games. Yes, Calloway can run the ball and run it well. They also happen to be able to throw the ball and do it well too, with a 3,000 yard passer and TWO 1,000 yard receivers and about 5 who can make the catch when they need to, including Willis. So, Calloway presents a tough matchup for defenses. Ask Russell Co, Franklin-Simpson, and ACS.

There's just a difference. Very seldom do you see the shotgun, four wide teams have the ability to stop the double tight wishbone, wing-t, flexbone and other 3 backfield type offenses. I'm curious as to how many of those types of teams Calloway has faced?Now, the great teams do. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the game.

To the best of my recollection (which is getting more suspect with age) I think Calloway played the following bone/veer/whatever run-oriented power back teams - Murray, Crittenden, Muhlenbeg North, Graves, Russell Co. I'm not sure if Marshall County would be in that category or not. The Lakers were 5-0 against the first 5 listed. I do agree with you that this will be another interesting game.

Until you see Tyrell Willis play, you dont understand just how much of a load he is to bring down. Im not a CC fan, but I find it hard to believe they will lose this game.

Bullitt East is strong on the line on both sides of the ball and has great LBs, and hard nose runners. They kids are smart and understand the game. The weak link in BE is their DBs, they normally do not have a strong pass coverage and this is the case this year. If Calloway has tall or fast WRs, this can cause problems for BE, esspecially in play action passing. I believe we will see BE in Papa Johns though.

Brockman for Calloway is a very good HS QB. If Bullit East is weak in the secondary, Calloway will look to exploit it.

Solid point, but I do believe Bullit East will be the best of the aforementioned opponents at running the ball and controlling the clock. A big question mark for the Lakers all season has been their defense.

What kind of defense is BE playing? How many holdover coaches do they have from the Settles days?

Would love to see Calloway make it Louisville.

I'm as confused as you are about it, but it just seems as though it's true for most teams. Teams are usually much better at defending what they do offensively, their offense that they see in the 6-8 weeks of practice before their first game. It works both ways, though. I'm sure Bullitt East is much better at stopping the double tight run attack more so than they are the spread game. With that being said, Calloway, like most spread teams who are pass heavy will get their big plays and yards. They have to be a good team or else they wouldn't have made it this far. However, I also think that they will committ a few turnovers, Bullitt East might as well, who knows.

 

Calloway is going to make some big plays, but they'll make a couple more turnovers than East and the ground heavy wishbone attack. East converts on Calloway's miscues. Something along the lines of of 42-21, 42-28 East.

I don't think the Lakers have relied a "big play" offense this season, but they are capable. Yes, Willis can break for a big gain on the ground, but he is really a great grinder. And, yes the CC air game is top-notch, with only 8 INTs in 13 games to go with 35 TDs. I think they've had two TOs in three playoff games so I don't know see that changing now. Also, the Lakers balance their ground-air offense very well and put together regular 5-6:00 drives. But when they have to go quick strike they do well under pressure. Calloway is probably the most balanced offense left among the 24 teams still in the semis. Lakers are playing great right now and never get rattled, even if they fall behind by 14 or so. Lakers just might roll on to Papa John's Stadium.
