Folks, EC is good but let's not get ahead of ourselves over one SCRIMMAGE. There is a lot of games to played and there are atleast 5 other teams out there that's once full strength, EC would really struggle against.

 

They'll have plenty of time to prove themselves during the REGULAR SEASON. Let's wait til then before we start crowning them state champs because of one scrimmage game where GRC didn't even have all of their players.

 

Eta Rho: Although a die hard EC fan I couldn't agree more. Even if EC would have won by 40 I would still say hold on. I still think Scott County and Holmes are 1-2 until proven otherwise. EC will not get the opportunity to play either one until the State Tournament in March (should they all get there first and then dependent on the brackets). So many variables over the next 3 months. One injury to a top player (God forbid) and EC is in big trouble. Some of the bigger schools lose a 6'7" player and just bring another big guy in to replace him with similar skills. EC doesn't have that. They will only be about 8 deep this year and even then a couple of them will have to make significant progress over the next 90 days. I agree-must come off the temporary cloud and put everything in perspective.

Just because a defensive player is in the air, doesn't mean its a foul. If he has position, he owns from the floor straight up to the ceiling. Defensive guys can jump. Totally legal.

 

That being said, I thought it was a good no call.

 

I just watched the video on YouTube and it should've been a foul on #21 and a free throw.

I know this was only a scrimmage but WOW!! Sounds like EC is for real. I'd say it'd be a little closer if these two met up in the regular season, but this shows that EC can compete with the big boys. Good luck to both teams this season!

 

I'd say EC is the big boy and GRC is the one trying to compete. GRC has loads of talent and will do nothing but get better, BUT I think that they are slightly overrated right now. I do not think they have the experience to compete in the top 5 in the state. They very well could gain this experience by the end of the year, but they don't have it just yet. I know this is only a scrimmage and you shouldn't base too much opinion on it, but this has been my opinion ever since there has been talk about them in the top 5 with such young players. Stenzel should be there go to guy this year because he has the most complete game on their team. Even though he played really well last year I think he will break out this year. I doubt his numbers will improve much because they were really good last year, but he will mature into a player with the edge and competitiveness needed for this team to be great. He seems tentative when he plays at times because he is young, but this year I believe he will step up as the vocal leader of GRC and become "the man" for this team.

I think a lot of people are reading way too much into this score. Clark played everyone who was dressed, the rotation was no where near what it will be come game time. The more I digest this "game" I really think Humphrey wasn't so much trying to "win" as he was seeing where each player fit in. Timmy Knipp would have fouled out in the 4th and the Faulkner kid had at least 4 on him if not 5 by the end of the game. GRC will be fine when it isn't practice!

Not trying to get an argument started ITAYG just stating from watching video both teams were trying quite a few players and subbing quite often. Both teams are good and both will get better. I can assure everyone neither team was nowhere near top form.

It should be a fun year Speedy. We'll see how they're looking a month from now. No team has played a game yet. Personnally I don't put much stock in preseason scrimmages and rankings. Like every year in the past there will be teams that consistently stay in the top 20, some that will fall out , and some surprise teams that earn their way into the rankings. Preseason rankings are based on perception, not what teams have proven on the court.

 

How does North Hardin look?

The 11th region should be very good this year. Some have Franklin Co as the surprise to win it. I think they will go far myself. They have an excellent three point shooter and wing player in Andy Donavan. I watched him all summer and he is the real deal. Should make Franklin really competitive.

Fouls were kept. You couldn't have 5 fouls and still be playing.

I would have to agree with Mrs. Hoops 69. Clark's top players all got significant minutes and no one was missing except Purvis who will be out all year. Ferg and the Falks got more bench/rest time then I've seen them get in a long time. Cody Nickels, a little 5'8" sophomore guard, who looks like a middle school player got more minutes than I expected for Elliott. Not downing Cody as he did a really good job in the short minutes he got, but he is no Ethan Faulkner or Jonathan Ferguson by a long shot. Even 6'6" sophomore Jacob Ison got more minutes than I expected and did well with about 4 points and 4 rebounds or so. Both teams did their fare share of rotating and experimented with different combinations. There was no advantage either way and yes both teams will improve and get better.

 

One more note: From the score one would think Elliott got their fair share of fast breaks. Not the case. The game was more of a half court game which should have favored the taller, more athletic, GRC team. Elliott's defense was excellent despite the height disadvantage in the half court.

If the defensive player was in the air, then it should've been And 1.
