November 23, 200817 yr In 2007 UL surrendered 377 points in 12 games, 31.4 per game. In 2008 UL has surrendered 295 points in 11 games, 26.8 per game. That's a difference of 4.6 points per game. We're not talking about the Steel Curtain here. If you have watched UL at all this year, you know their defense is leaps and bounds better than last year.

They seem to know what to do much better, they just aren't that much better at doing it. 27 points a game still isn't all that good--it has at least reached mediocrity, however. Much like the difference in UK's defese between 2006 and 2007.

I was along that sideline after the Syracuse loss, but I'm back on the 'give him 4 years' boat because I recently heard that in the last game there were 8 walk-ons that got significant playing time. I really hope that Kragthorpe has some good recruitment plans, because UofL desperately needs some more talent and depth, especially at defense and WR.

November 23, 200817 yr ^^^^Reminds me of a pitcher in the 50s with his windup. If I can see it you would think the coaches could too. My 11 year old is wanting to play QB and first thing I showed him was how not to bring the ball down and wind up. I used other QBs to show him and it was easy to do.
November 23, 200817 yr The coaches do see it. But their best option RIGHT NOW is Simms, and he does the same thing. Next year, I look for Justin Burke or Zack Stoudt to be the starter, with Simms or Wolfe transferring....those are the breaks, but with more solid QB play, more wins will come.
November 23, 200817 yr Other Qb's have succeeded with the same throwing motion. IMO Cantwell needs to start moving laterally in the pocket much like short Qb's do, the thing is if you can maintain line of sight with the receiver odds are you can get him the ball.

I guess I should have said other Qb's have succeeded with awkward throwing motions and low releases, I didn't mean literally the same throwing motion as Cantwell, his is unique. The point is still the same, if he maintained line of sight with his receiver he wouldn’t have as many balls tipped...

I bet some of those walk-ons are from Louisville.

November 23, 200817 yr UL will get better, however I don't think Kragthorpe is capable of getting them to the level Petrino had them at. Just not the same caliber coach IMO…
November 23, 200817 yr And with a defense with a tenth the potency of English's defense. And with Charlie Stubbs' playcalling. Last year was such a waste of potential. This year there were a lot fewer weapons, but we should have NEVER, EVER lost to Syracuse and Connecticut. Those losses were absolutely inexcusable, IMO.
