....:thumb: This great game, may not be attended like Basketball and Football, but give me the sound of bat meeting ball, leather popping and being in a Dugout.

 

Fans are the ones, who follow their sons and who love this great game, as well. Of course, I may be a little partial to Baseball but can't hide it.

My love of the game, luckily, has transferred to my son and we have a deal that we toss or hit anytime it is 40 degrees or better. So, the last two days we have been active, even in December. It's been great to get started again and can't wait until spring.

 

He prefers anytime over 30 degrees, but I'm getting too old to enjoy it when it's that cold!!!:banana:

From a development standpoint, to playing College and Professional, than it very well could be. You have a lot of talent, which gets to play at various Divisions, in College.

 

Popularity wise, no but still the greatest game, in my book.

 

I agree, however I will say that over time it' got that kind of possibility. We are seeing many programs in that state making noise at a national level.

I live and die baseball through and through, but Kentucky will always be basketball. With UK and all the tradition with the state tourney, the state will be be basketball.

I love baseball more than any other sports maybe. But in the state of Kentucky baseball will never pass basketball and the tradition of UK and high school basketball. I know with the rise of UK baseball and other colleges within the state doing so well and the players getting to the majors it has been great but we will always be a basketball state, and I'm fine with it. Just wondering I don't have any stats but Fl. is considered a football state but I wold love to see how many players have come from that state to play in the majors.

UK ranked preseason #19 in the country and UL #8 according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Also, UK finished the season ranked 25th in the country for attendance, UL at 50th. The top 12 in attendance include 11 SEC schools, USC was the only non-SEC school and South Carolina the only SEC school not in the top 12. Quite a conference when you're 10th in your conference and 25th in the country in attendance.

The big schools have very few scholarship athletes from the Commonwealth of Kentucky in baseball. So, I'll stick with football as the best sport in the state. The city of Louisville has fallen way off in producing stud basketball talent or maybe the rest of the country simply caught up.

This thread has some awesome posts and have enjoyed reading them. I LOVE the game of baseball and would have to say if you're basing it on successful professionals currently playing the game, there's no argument that baseball is the top sport in Kentucky.

I would put basketball behind baseball at #3.

Just a little, can you tell.... I love this great game and what it offers those who are involved with it. We who are passionate about Baseball, must continue promoting and encouraging participation. It starts at the youth level, with getting kids involved and instructed with proper fundamentals. Lay the ground work for development, fun and effort. Utilize those who have played and want to give something back.

 

Many former players want to get involved in Baseball instruction and just need a chance. Former players can be ambassadors to High School players, all across this great state.

 

Baseball is played daily and to some, might be a reason the discussion is not what it could be or the media coverage, lacks at times. Use the school websites, BGP, daily announcements, quotes to the newspaper, encourage radio to do a game of the week. Invite neighbors out, to watch these young men play. Be positive and passionate about Baseball and your role in it. It's our obligation, to help High School Baseball in Kentucky continue to prosper.

When is the last time a football player from KY got draft out of the first or second round? And I am also hearing alot of D1 signees for baseball this year and not that many football players. Baseball is clearly the best sport in KY. The best football team in KY IMO is Highlands. They run this state, but when they cross the river to play teams in Ohio they lose almost everytime. Baseball teams contend alot better than the football teams do.
