Tackle at waist, don't leave your feet, head on ball side, and drive through them not sling them.

This was a great game no doubt, and so many details could be discussed, but I only will discuss this one! Before I get started let me first say that in 30 years of watching high school football Miles Simpson is one of the best I've ever seen! The things that this young man can do, most of which are natural abilities, is amazing! His vision, ability to make people miss while continuing his forward progress, strength, speed, and agility rivals some of the best running backs this entire state has offered for decades! That being said, IMO,Conner's lack of defense is what lost this game. Obviously the two turnovers proved to be costly, as in any big game, but it was the tackling IMO that proved to be the difference! This Cougar defense has not tackled well all year, with the exception of the Ryle game. That my friends comes down to coaching! Not to put a damper on a great season by the Cougars, or try and throw any one individual coach under the bus,but the tackling was an embarrassment. I've seen better tackling technique from an 8 year old pee wee football team:irked: If this type of approach to tackling is aloud to go on for an entire season and isn't addressed, one has to wonder about whoever is teaching it! Miles Simpson, Charles Quainoo, and even any of the best NFL running backs WILL GO DOWN IF YOU TACKLE THEM BY THE LEGS, PERIOD! :irked::irked: In the biggest game of the year Conner allowed more points than they have ALL YEAR to an opponent! No way does your offense put up 41 points and LOSE! Good luck to the Pioneers next week, and to the Cougars in the up coming season! :thumb::thumb:

Wow sportsfan 22 - you must have a personal axe to grind with the Conner defensive coach (who is also the Boone County sheriff) - did you get a speeding ticket Friday night trying to catch up to the Simpson yards OR to the West passing yards????:D;):laugh:

I agree! Not counting Cooper, every team has their running back coming back, and every team but Boone has their qb coming back!

Boone's starting QB, Nate Alford, will be back next year. He's not playing now due to injury but he' only a junior.

I don't think Alford was that big of a difference he is a good kid but Boone doesn't seam to have missed a stroke.

Nobody in football teaches players to tackle by the legs. You are uninformed. You should look up how to teach tackling and see if you can find any instruction on diving at legs. Coaches teach high tackling because it is the proper way to make sure tackles. If you played football, try to remember your form tackle drills. Did you form tackle during the drill by diving at your partners legs?

If you actually read my post verbatim, nowhere does it mention DIVING OR LEAVING YOUR FEET, OR SLINGING SOMEONE TO THE GROUND! A tackler's shoulder should hit anywhere between the belly button to just below the knees, followed by wrapping the arms and driving the ball carrier to the ground with your legs! Now that tackling 101 is over, lets get back to the point, and quit splitting hairs here! Even if your vast knowledge of proper form tackling is correct, the proper way to tackle, even as YOU SEE IT, doesn't occur on this team! Please don't insult my intelligence when it comes to fundamental football!

Can't help but think that Conner's offense will routinely score 40-50 points next season with all the talent they have coming back. On the down side, they just may need to score that many if the defense doesn't improve. ;)

Tell me Coop, just what is it,in your humble opinion, the obvious problems with this defense?

No Kickerboy, but I might be getting a random stop in the near future!:scared: I was just venting my frustrations, Again if everyone would read my entire post they could read IMO more than once, and even a couple of praises along the way! Although I always enjoy getting advice on the fundamentals of football from all these local high school BOY'S!:lol:

Do me a favor, and ask the Conner defender on SK'S last two point conversion if high tackling is a good idea against the likes of Miles Simpson! I'm not sure who it was, but a Conner defender, at about the 1 yard line tried to stick his helmet and shoulder under Mr. Simpson's chin, only to land on his back while having his chest stepped on as Miles exploded into the end zone! Their isn't a Pee Wee coach worth his salt that wouldn't have laughed at that attempt!:lol:

It sounds like I really need to get out and see Miles Simpson.

I think that would be a good investment. Only a Jr, so plenty of time to save up for those $5 admissions. $7 if you go to a Conner playoff game.

I'm more than positive I can get the boyfriend to take me to see this kid play. Unfortunately I work til 8:00 this Friday or I would DEF. want to be at the game.

Not that tackling Simpson is the easiest task in the world (in fact, it may be the toughest task in NKY high school football), but I also saw a lot of poor tackling and poor angles to the ball. I have only seen Conner play twice this year. For one of the games (Ryle, of course :irked:) they tackled very well and played very solid defense. This did not look like the same defense against SK, but obviously Ryle does not have a Simpson to throw at Conner. But, based on other games in which Conner gave up quite a few points, it would appear that there is some inconsistency/weakness in the defense. I certainly don't claim to be a defensive expert by any means, but I have never heard anyone preach to tackle up high. My son (whom you obviously know) is not a large kid, but I think you would agree he is a pretty solid tackler and he tackles low all the time.

Good run for the Cougars! Sorry to see them lose, but it was good seeing them in the playoffs again. Anyone know where I can find stats on the game?
