Kind of wondering - anyone think SK was actually going to run a play on the 4th and 3 at the end of the game?

 

No way..

Only reason I even semi-wondered was that I'm not certain they had punted the entire game up to that point and maybe as cold as it was they were concerned about the long snapper being accurate or containing what surely would have been an all-out rush by Conner.

I'm almost positive SK didn't punt all night.

 

I would have given Simpson the ball and let the chips fall where they may. If Conner got the ball back, the odds were at about 80% they scored from that point, regardless of where they got it. West wasn't rushing things on drives that were well under 2 minutes...

Tough call to make there. Conner would have been looking at getting the ball back with about 40 seconds left and no timeouts. A lot tougher to score from their own 20-30 yard line than from midfield. I would assume (perhaps wrongly) that there's no way SK would let a WR get behind them at that point . . . .

I couldn't believe SK was going for it on 4th and 3 but my favorite saying is "Simpson could fall out of bed and gain 4". If they were going to run a play it shows that SK believed they could make the short gain. We will never know if they were actually going to run a play but the the thread of Bustle or Simpson running made the Cougar defense play aggressively. I know that I took a West and the Cougars out of the game.

Best players they have ever coached or not, it's still not the easiest or obvious call to make there. Not saying running SImpson there is wrong, just not the no-brainer you claim it to be . . .

No brainer if you get 3 yards, but otherwise it could have been disastrous. SK was sucessful three times with the hard count, and I think the coaching staff was willing to take a delay of game at that point if Conner didn't jump.

As much as I hate seeing a close friend like Coach Trosper get knocked out of the playoffs after an amazing game from his team, I'm just as much proud of the Pioneers for accomplishing something they have NEVER done before which is reaching the Region Finals.

 

All year SK has faced a lot of criticism about their inconsistencies and they have finally put it all together and played to their potential. Miles Simpson is an absolute man out there. Good luck to the Pioneers next week. BEAT BOONE!!!

Congratulations to the Pioneers! Good luck in your game with Boone this week. It should be another very good game. It is a shame either team had to lose, but you 'Neers did what you needed to secure the win!

 

Congratulations go to the Cougars as well for turning around their program! Mr. West has continued to get better and better throughout the season. I remember his 8th grade BCPWFL coach telling me a number of years ago that I should remember this young man since he was going to be a real stud by the time he got to high school. The same coach had a hand with another great QB at Conner, Trevor Stellman, along with many other recent and current players for the Cougars. He's seen his share of great players through the years. It's good to see him on the Cougar sideline now.
