Well actually after the 2000 game against Highlands Owensboro was moved up to 4A at that time and in 2001 lost in the semi finals to Louisville Male and were in 4A until the classes changed last year and since they were one of the smallest 4A schools they are now 5A.

 

So had OHS been kept in 3A in 2001 they may have won the title that year. I don't remember who won 3A in 2001 oh yes I do it was Boyle Co.

 

I said this on another thread earlier that yes although a state title would be nice for my son the world will not end if it doesn't happen but he will be playing somewhere on Saturdays and hopefully on Sundays after that and that is what is the most important to me. Free education and a chance to make a living playing a game. The bigger picture is really what it is about!

 

I would trade 4 state titles for an NCAA title or super bowl title any day!

I stand partly corrected. Leslie County was never a serious team, but was in fact a team the whole state wanted to win so Tim Couch could validate the nationwide hype he received. I don't recall Leslie County ever being a serious threat to win state and that is proven by your 47-12 victory in a game that mattered. Nobody outside of Leslie County expected them to win state when they had Tim Couch. They had great numbers, but they weren't all that. How many state titles did Couch/Leslie County win anyways?

 

Never a serious team but yet they had already beaten Highlands once, were undefeated, the highest scoring team in the state, and had a future NFL QB who would go on to win Mr. Football?

Well I know they will in the finals and I sure hope it is us because I think we can give you a game. I may be wrong but this is one of the best OHS teams in a while as in the whole package not just a few good players but the team as a whole and should be for at least 2 more years. That is why I want the regular season game. Come to the Big O once and get some Moonlite bar B Q and then we will come up there and eat with you guys.

Seriously folks, this time of year there is no telling what can happen. No matter who wins or doesn't win, all the young men are winners! These guys are playing for the love of the game. These are just young men and we are all supposed to be adults...I think these guys act older and more mature than some posters are acting in a couple of threads!! Credit for what? Am I supposed to add Leslie County to the list of great teams that Highlands has defeated over the years? I respect all things Highlands, I always have, but we all know that when it comes to great teams that Highlands has defeated in its history, Leslie County is probably not in the top 25. It's hard for me to give credit over Highlands defeating a team that was led by a Heisman trophy finalist, all time UK football great, and #1 draft pick, when his high school team earned its record and stats with a cupcake schedule and mediocre competition, even though they beat Highlands in the Thoroughbred Bowl. I am sure there is an extremely valid explanation for that loss as well(kind of like the Bryan Station game of last week).

 

Maybe you guys should have spent more time playing defense that game instead of trying to get his autograph.

Clearly Highlands has to be the favorite I am not arguing that since nobody they have scheduled in KY has beat them since 2006. If you guys are finished with the Hoptown home and home I want you to call and schedule OHS for the next 2 years please. In order to be the best you have to beat the best and well you can't beat the best unless you schedule the best so if you need the number let me know. :ylsuper::ylsuper:

I saw Owensboro on film against Hoptown this season. Id say the Birds would have beaten them by 3 or 4 touchdowns as well.

 

There is only one team in KY this season that I think could take the Birds and that is Lou. St. X.

I was actually referring to giving credit to Leslie Co. not Highlands. Leslie Co had a great season that year and to say they were never a serious threat is quite comical considering you proved my point in your post by listing all of the accolades Couch earned. :lol::thumb:

I find it funny how all year EVERYONE talked about Highlands being so good and now all of a sudden they have ONE close game and they're not as good as advertised? I see Dale making a statement these next couple weeks. See you at PJCS...or will we? :sssh:

I just don't see anyone at the 5A level this year that is on the same caliber as HHS. They are one of the top 3 teams in the state. It may be a streatch to say they could play with X this year, but they certainly could contend with any other team in the state, IMO

I believe that BGHS potentially has an even tougher road to the 5A title than last year. Last year, the Purples had blowout wins the first two rounds, then had John Hardin at Elizabethtown, Owensboro at the Dungeon (and trust me, Highlands fans, there is a reason why we call Rash Stadium the Dungeon!!), then Highlands.

 

In my article in the BGHS QB Club Newsletter this week, I warned of a very ominous playoff scenario. We play 10-1 Owensboro this week. The Red Devils are an old and heated WKC rival. They have beaten us (37times) more than any other program in existence. Next (and I don't mean any disrespect to another old WKC rival, Hopkinsville) could be 11-1 Christian County. They had a very heated rivalry in the 1970s and early 1980s. They had an intense hatred for us, and the feeling was mutual. I've said it before and I'll say it again: old and heated rivalries out west can leave the Region One champ physically beat up and emotionally drained!

 

Then, there could be a return trip to E-town to face another outstanding John Hardin team. They hired a great coach, Mark Brown, away from Nelson County. Their school district took some very fine players away from E-town, North Hardin, and Central Hardin. It was a great program just waiting to happen! They would have a 12-1 record at that point. In Louisville, we could face Highlands again whose only loss was to an Ohio team, or Johnson Central, at 14-0 would be the last shot at an unbeaten 5A champ.

 

Quite a Murderer's Row possibility if you ask me! But if BGHS were to pull it off, they should be truly regarded as a great champion.

 

Highlands has five championship game losses. Four of those came at the hands of current or former WKC teams: Henderson City in 1959, Caldwell County in 1963, Hopkinsville in 1966, and BGHS in 1995.

In 95 and 96 no one in BG really feared Leslie County. I believe Leslie played Hoptown in a regular season game one of those years and got beat by 50 points or so.

Of course 99% of the vote is going to be for the school that won it last year and for the most part all the posters on here reside.

 

I hate to be a turd and all but this is almost like starting a thread on here who wins 6A and putting more than 2 teams on the selection. I can see it now next thread after Friday night...........Can anybody beat the Bluebirds???

 

I think this is the kind of arrogance some talk about on here. I am going to go out on a limb here and say Highlands gets 9 out of every 10 votes and the other one vote will be spread out amongst the others anybody want to bet me on it????
