Comparing the last 4 years playing St X and Trinity -vs- playing Highlands in '95 & '07, I would have to say I felt a lot more respect from the two 6A schools. Like it or not, there is a sense of superiority from the HHS fans. If a team is good (and they certainly are and have been), there's no need for words. If HHS players get on BGP and read all the posts about how another trophy is already engraved with the Bluebirds name, it could lead 16-17 year olds to look beyond their first round opponent. Maybe they did last week, maybe they didn't.

I think the West has some outstanding teams this year (and last year as well)and it's a shame only one will make it to the finals. Whether it's us, Oboro, CC, Hoptown or JH...I'm certainly pulling for the West. Whoever gets there from our side will have definitely earned it...It's a complete toss up this Friday with the BG/OHS, CC/Hop, and JH/Old games.

Purplealum you can say that again! These are three toss up games that can go either way. The next 3 weeks in the west are going to be tough games for everyone that keeps winning.

 

You scrimmage Male you don't play Male. We scrimmage the Patriots and Cowboys. So a scrimmage is all it is if was a game with meaning I know the approach to that would be a bit different.

 

Good Luck Friday night and go Bluebirds I want to see you there in December not upset along the way. If we make it there I want to play you and nobody else win or lose I don't care then but if I am going to lose I want to lose to the team that is suppose to win it anyway!!!

 

If we don't get there well I will see you in Bowling Green next year. One last thing did you know Owensboro is an hour and a half closer than Hoptown anyway. You guys need to come and play in the storied Rash Stadium as we need to come up and play at your storied stadium as well.

 

We started playing Bowling Green in 1932 we did not play you for the first time until 1999 in the finals don't you think it is time you scheduled one of the west teams with all that history???

Lorenzen would have been a freshman that year. Let's not forget the Birds did knock off a Leslie Co team 47-12 the week before led by future NFL Qb Tim Couch.

 

Highlands finished 95' with an 11-4 record with losses to Holmes, Ryle, Leslie Co (first game of the season 44-42), and BG in the state finals.

JC lost 2 fumbles. BS lost 4 and had 2 passes picked off. JC still had to come from behind in the 4th quarter to win. PAINTSVILLE, Ky. -- J.J. Jude's touchdown run with about six minutes left to play Friday lifted Johnson Central past Bryan Station, 35-31.

 

In all fairness to the Golden Eagles, Central put the football on the ground six or seven times that game (only losing two, perhaps, but fumbles you recover yourself still lose yardage and kill drives) and played the whole way with the sophomore backup quarterback.

That's correct. Leslie Co was undefeated coming in to that game, the highest scoring team in the state, AND had already beaten Highlands first game of the year 44-42 in the Thoroughbred Bowl.

I stand partly corrected. Leslie County was never a serious team, but was in fact a team the whole state wanted to win so Tim Couch could validate the nationwide hype he received. I don't recall Leslie County ever being a serious threat to win state and that is proven by your 47-12 victory in a game that mattered. Nobody outside of Leslie County expected them to win state when they had Tim Couch. They had great numbers, but they weren't all that. How many state titles did Couch/Leslie County win anyways?

Well actually after the 2000 game against Highlands Owensboro was moved up to 4A at that time and in 2001 lost in the semi finals to Louisville Male and were in 4A until the classes changed last year and since they were one of the smallest 4A schools they are now 5A.

 

So had OHS been kept in 3A in 2001 they may have won the title that year. I don't remember who won 3A in 2001 oh yes I do it was Boyle Co.

 

I said this on another thread earlier that yes although a state title would be nice for my son the world will not end if it doesn't happen but he will be playing somewhere on Saturdays and hopefully on Sundays after that and that is what is the most important to me. Free education and a chance to make a living playing a game. The bigger picture is really what it is about!

 

I would trade 4 state titles for an NCAA title or super bowl title any day!

 

Wow, until you posted that you have a son old enough to be high school kid, I was under the impression that everyone was debating with a high school kid. I really hope O town does make the finals against the Birds. I'm looking forward to seeing this all world, future NFL player of yours. It's always fun to watch that kind of talent!
