Mussina informed the Yankees last week he would give them a decision by the end of this week. Mussina, who turns 40 next month, spent the last eight seasons with the Yankees after pitching for the Baltimore Orioles for the first 10 years of his career. His 270 wins rank second among all active right-handers, behind only Greg Maddux. November 20, 200817 yr I always liked Mussina. He had a good season last year after a couple of not so good ones, so it's great to see him leave the game on a positive note. Mussina was good for the game and had a nice career. I think we will see him in the booth or on the bench again as a coach.

We have enough pitchers like Jenkins, Hunter, Drysdale, Gomez, Newhouser, Lemon, etc. who water down the Hall. Mussina doesn't belong in the Hall with Young, Johnson, Mathewson, Alexander, Spahn, etc and neither do a lot of those already there. We shouldn't cheapen it like we have so many of our other institutions. If Mussina wants in, let him win 300 games. Otherwise, no.

This season was the first time he ever won 20 games, and he doesn't have 300 wins. I say no Hall of Fame for him but he still had a very good career.

I liked Moose, but when the Yankees needed him most in the playoffs, he was never able to come through

November 21, 200817 yr Was a solid pitcher at Standford and an excellent MLB pitcher. He learned to adapt his style over the years. Very consistent and competitive. Does a lot to help youth programs.

Yeah he may have got most of his wins with the Orioles but he was in the big show with the Yanks... Still he is not a HOF pitcher compared to a ton of other pitchers that are waiting to get into the HOF.

Andy Pettitte (824) The ones with the asterisks are already in the Hall of Fame. Wells, Schilling, Brown and Pettitte aren't eligible yet. Mussina pitched in a 5 man rotation his whole career with the specialized bullpens of today. He's one of the first that pitched entirely in that era. Sure, his numbers might not compare to those of the guys that made 40 starts a year and threw 300 innings a season but those days are gone. He won 270 of his 537 starts and averaged 17 wins a season. Huge numbers in today's game. He also won 7 Gold Gloves and finished in the Top 5 in Cy Young voting 6 times. His ERA is 0.83 runs per game better than the league average for the time that he pitched. He also finished 33rd All Time in Wins and his Winning Percentage (.638) is 38th All Time. That winning percentage is what sets him apart from guys like Tommy John (.555), Bert Blyleven (.534) and Jim Kaat (.544) who all have similar win totals but fell short of 300, and his ERA differential is better too. He won more games than all but 33 of all the thousands of pitchers that have ever pitched in the Major Leagues--yet he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? 24 of the 33 pitchers who have as many or more wins than Mussina are already in the Hall of Fame, 3 are still active 1 is not eligible yet. Everyone that knows me knows that I really dislike the Yankees but Mussina deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
