November 17, 200817 yr Anyone else see on there tonight where he said he plans on "throwing his weight around" to have an 8 team playoff put in to place in the future?
November 17, 200817 yr Unless his weight consits of big bags of money for all the BCS conferences and bowl commities, I don't see how he can change anything as far as NCAA football goes.
November 17, 200817 yr I saw this and I'm not sure what I think. I don't think Obama's plan is going to work. There is simply too much money being made in the current system. I'm also not sure how I feel about the President using his authority to alter athletics, but I'll spare you that since this is in the college sports thread. I suppose we should focus on the actual impact it'll have on sports.

I suppose we should focus on the actual impact it'll have on sports. From the way he explained it, he thinks with the playoff system, you could use the final 8 teams in the BCS and have them play their regular bowl games but just add 2 more games to decide a national champ. It would add 3 more weeks and you could shorten the regular season. It would allow a true national champion to be crowned since all of the 1 loss teams usually have legitimate arguments for playing in the NC. This way it's decided on the field and not by computers or fans votes.
November 17, 200817 yr I think he's trying to figure out a way to get more taxes for the government or just throwing out a statement to please some people. Anyone who thinks UC is known as the Bobcats probably doesn't care that much about the way the NCAA decides a champion. Also, how could he really throw his weight around on this? Hopefully he has other worries.

He'll do nothing about it but it sure sounds good.
November 17, 200817 yr This is what I want my prez spending time on. On the brink of a depression, hundreds of thousands of troops fighting in foreign countries, borders literally wide open; and we want a playoff system. AWESOME!!!
November 17, 200817 yr According to the NCAA, it's all about the student athlete. What a joke, D1 football plays one game/ week, they don't seem to mind during basketball season when teams play at least two games per week. If they knew they would make money hand over fist they would have already set the '08 brackets.

November 17, 200817 yr Well it wouldn't be the first time. Pressure brought to bear by the Teddy Roosevelt administration is what led to the creation of the NCAA to begin with. Of course... college football was actually resposible for deaths, so things were a little more pressing.
November 17, 200817 yr Why doesn't government mind their own friggin business and stay out of sports???
November 17, 200817 yr ^ It's like a little kid getting hold of something shiny. "Ooooo! Something to regulate? Mom, can we keep it... and tax it?"
November 17, 200817 yr You all are wackadoo. It was a joke. It was in the part of the interview that was lighthearted.
