November 16, 200817 yr Exactly. They shouldn't of "sucked" on D. If they would've been better on D, then VMI might would not have scored the 14 threes, and then UK might have won. Good to see that you agree with me. And kudos to Louisville for hanging on for the win against NKU. That's the difference between UL and UK at this point. UL is good enough to get a win against a lesser team that has a hot hand. UK is not.
November 16, 200817 yr UK's defense can be fixed. They missed some rotations and their help defense wasn't so good. But, let's look at the positives. UK put up 103 points and Patterson only had 8 I believe plus they gave the ball back to VMI 25 times, that's 25 times UK didn't get to shoot the ball. When the defense improves and the offense continues to click. Look out BCG will have the whole country taking notice of the wildcats. Let's not forget as we trash UK's defense that the refs called everything. Thus, making BCG's patent "in your grill defense" almost useless. VMI made almost as many free throws as UK attempted take into account the 14 3's and 25 extra possesions i'm satisfied with only an 8 point loss. Basketball is a simple game no matter the type of athletes you have. Create as many offensive possesions as you can taking good shots, make more free throws than your opponent attempts and have a rebounding advantage and you can win ballgames with less than 5 star talent. That's my philosophy anyways.
November 16, 200817 yr I highlighted the key word in this sentence... Ok... I'm not sure what point your trying to make there. UK lost and UL won. I'm aware of that fact. My beginning point was that the 14 three's hurt UK. Along with bad D, which helped the threes.
November 16, 200817 yr Billy G, this team doesn't have a leader, and they can't play much defense, at all..

As far as being satisfied with an 8 point loss, well, that makes one person.
November 16, 200817 yr It seems like Gillispie is a stubborn coach. What I mean by this is he doesn't seem to make appropriate, if any at all, in-game adjustments. He got caught up in the speed of the game, and I bet the names Krebs, Slone, Galloway, or Stewart never even crossed his mind. He isn't a very experienced coach, and it showed last night. I think there is definitely something to the stubbornness of Billy G. He refused to even try a zone defense when it was clear that they couldn't match-up with VMI (I think this came up last year, too, about ONLY playing man2man).
November 18, 200817 yr A good team starts with a quality PG, and this team doesn't have one yet. They have talent at 2,3,4 and 5, but without a general you won't go far. I say let Liggins get the minutes, he can't be worse than Porter, I just wish he would have taken the USC football gig, Lord knows we'll hear plenty of that this year. I totally agree. If Porter remains the PG, it's gonna be another long season. The PG needs to be a 1) great ball handler and 2) have great vision. I don't see any of those in Porter.

I don't see any of those in Porter. Porter won't be able to play PG against UNC. Lawson is considered one of the fastest if not the fastest PG in college basketball. I see Liggins playing PG.
November 19, 200817 yr 1. Lack of talent 2. No point guard 3. No reliable shooters 4. No individual player development 5. No final four appearances in 10 years 6. ZERO offensive scheme 7. Poor spacing 8. We have been successful in two eras: Rupp and Pitino. UK needs to return to an up-tempo style of play. Currently, we have no style of play. Hire a coach who runs this system then recruit to the system. 10. We are currently a has-been program. We cannot compete with the elite programs.

Better yet, why don't we let Billy G recruit to his system and see what happens, rather than expecting him to turn a mess into a national power in one season. Just a thought...
November 19, 200817 yr Plain and simple, no backcourt. Yes, there is a tremendous need for a PG, but I think they are weak right now at both positions. You need to rely on your 2 or 3 the help with the pressure, but I don't see anyone being a big timer right now. As the season pregresses, I believe they will get stronger at the 2&3. But the PG has to develop out of this group.
