Highlands 28 Bryan Station 22

The one thing that Irks me the most one BGP is we can give the kids all the props for the good and none of the criticism when they "MESS"up. Don't get me wrong, I don't want any kid to be criticized on a public forum, but all the praise needs to stop when there is equal or more bad to go along with it. For anyone to think that last nights game was good by any stretch of the imagination is clueless. There were no "heros" or "stars" in this game for HHS. Well except one "star" and I won't say who since it can't go both ways but I think most know who I'm talking. No "heros" last night. Other than the way BS played. An absolute heros effort!

Obviously, I disagree. Just because the competition was high, doesn't mean that SOME players had good/great games. Some playing sub-par games came on on improved later in the contest. Games are made up of good plays and bad plays...hopefully your side makes more good than bad and you win! Last night's game wasn't what we expected or want from the Birds...but give BS the credit for that.

To say Bryan Station is huge is a gross understatement!!! That's the largest collective high school team I've seen on this side of the river. The running backs...#3 and 24 took a lot of pitches around the end and picked up huge chunks of yardage....very similar to Colerain. The bubble screen to #4 was also effective...Bryan Station's skill guys were fast and very hard to bring down on the initial hit. This game was a nail-biter right to the very end...Highland's last drive was aided immensely by a couple of off-side penalties by Station. Highlands could move the ball effectively, but fumbles and untimely penalties stalled a couple drives. Good to see Josh Conner carry most of the load and regain some of his 2007 form.

I am a Johson Central fan, and even though I may make some Belfry people mad, Bryan Station was the best team we faced this year. Very big and athletic! Although I did not see this coming, I knew Bryan Station could cause problems on any given night.

WOW! Flashback to 1971 when the same BS team came to FT. T and beat HHS (albeit with better looking uniforms...but that's a whole different thread!) The Birds snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Even with the return of Josh Conner at RB, the Birds had to call on "the ghosts of David Cecil Memorial" to eke out out this win. First, let me compliment the entire Bryan Station Nation, as their fans, team, and coaches came ready and EXPECTING to win. They played hard nosed, smash-mouth football and gave HHS NOTHING! Players that impressed me the most for BS were their RB #3. Speed, strength, lightning moves and all compacted in a 5'3" frame...oh, and I forgot HEART! The QB was cool under pressure made the throws when they needed them. The offensive line was BIG and did a real nice job all night long! #89 did a real nice job blocking on the outside. Defensively, BS did a nice job, but HHS with 5 fumbles stopped themselves more than the defense did. HHS, hopefully, got a wakeup call here! We're fortunate to have a 6'5" punter, as David Hogue hauled down a couple of high snaps to get off one punt and scramble 20+ yards to almost get a first down on another. If those 2 plays go the other way, HHS would be spectators this morning. Josh Conner (welcome back!) didn't have a Conner-esque game, but his vision and instincts...not to mention his blocking, are as good as anyone in the state. Tony Guidugli had flashes of brilliance, then would be very pedestrian. But he "manned-up" at crunch time and led the Birds on one of the best pressure drives ever in their storied history (Gino who?). Tyler Combs, Jr. center, you know your doing a great job when nobody knows your playing center. By that I mean, all your snaps are on target and your man is not making plays. Great job all year long by this young man, but the last 2 weeks he has had to block 800 lbs of player and has performed admirably! Michael Laber, SR do-it-all, stepped over to play LG for an injured Hunter Schlosser and did a FINE job as well as his usual stellar defensive effort. Oliver Head and Brandon Roller made many saving tackles on D as did "the Cool AC Breeze" (Austin Collinsworth). AC made big plays in a big game and that's what's expected from big-time players. BS could not cover him at all...or Roller all night. And speaking of big plays, SR. all state candidate, Adam Dempsey definitely had his "A" game last night. Going both ways, he stifled the D1 DE from BS, paved the way for the running game, made numerous tackles on D and had a big interception and return that COULD have sealed the game. But penalties and TO's seemed to be the thorn for HHS this night. Films this morning WON'T be enjoyable for the Birds. Dale will have MANY coaching points to exploit this week. Look for a re-focused and mad flock of Birds next Friday. Thank you BS!

The only bad part of HS FB playoffs is that one team loses. Though BS lost a game, you cannot call them losers. They played with heart, passion, smarts, and great ability. They are a proud group of players, coaches, and fans that represented their school in the highest way. Their program is headed back to its former glory. To their SRs., good luck in your future endeavors. To the underclassmen, y'all get another shot! Work hard, stay focused, listen to your coaches/parents and maybe we'll see you again next year! GREAT GAME!

PS...sorry for thr LN-esque length of this post!

The important thing is that you posted yours first. Technically, his was first (#111 @ 6:59am), however, it is lacking in the usual LN in-depth analysis that yours provided!

Maybe the two of you can put together a radio call-in show!?! :thumb:

Since nobody has pointed it out #55 was it... the hero of Ft. Thomas this weekend recovering the 2nd Conner fumble. You saved the season.

Let's also point out that #55 got the critical personal foul penalty after the Dempsey interception to take it from 2nd and Goal at the 1 yd. line to 2nd and goal at the 16 yd. line. A missed FG was the result of the drive. That was right after HHS' statement long drive to open the 2nd half. If they punch it in from the 1 yd. line to go up 28-12, that could have been a killer.

He drove #32 to the ground right at the feet of the White Hat. Not knowing when the whistle blew, hard to say if it was late or not. Regardless, it was WAAAAAY AWAY from the play. If it was even close, #55 will not enjoy films.

With those two yacking...do you really think there would be time for callers?

Well, well , well. Good morning birdman. Did the "sandman" cause you to sleep late this morning or were you just avoiding the wrath of Henry?

I bet the Ashland and Johnson Central coaching staff is setting the Bryan Station High School as we speak, waiting a copy of this game film.

They smell blood.

I feel that the JC staff will be at Cov Cath today and preparing for that game next week. You have to win every week to go on and Cov Cath is not a team to overlook. Altough everyone would love to see the Hihgland-JC match up, both have business to take care of this Friday night.

H – Collinsworth 5 fumble recovery (Rosenhagen kick)

B – McCaden 14 run (kick failed)

B – King 44 field goal

H – Crawford 3 run (Rosenhagen kick)

B – King 32 field goal

H – Conner 23 run (Rosenhagen kick)

B – Cornett 3 run (Marin kick)

B – Marin 22 field goal

H – Collinsworth 25 pass Guidugli (Rosenhagen kick)

King kicks a 44 yard and a 32 yard field goal for Station and then somebody else kicks the last one from 22? Did King get hurt?

That would take all the fun out of it!!:lol::lol::lol:

Congratulations to the Birds on winning a tough one. Its easy to win and look good doing it when everything is going your way and the ball always bounces right into your hands. The true measure of your character is how you react when you are facing a challenge and nothing is going your way.

I'm sure the true character of this team is what lead them on that last drive for the win. Nice job. :thumb:

Totally agree:thumb: Punch that one in and the momentum is squarely in the Birds favor. Letting BS stay close the whole game gave them confidence and hope they could pull off the upset.

He missed an extra point and another FG. Looked good when he made them, but bad when he missed. Notice Marin kicked the XP before the FG.

The play by play man couldn't make up his mind.

The clue was when he struggled reading the BS line-up for the evening... there was a 10 second gap and then he adds the BS coach.

Some of us made it over to LNs for the Woodford post game and I think one may have made a pre-game stop! :thumb:

More proof that Highlands won't have a game within 30 points in the playoffs.

:sssh::sssh::sssh::sssh: :lol:

Also not trying to be a smart-aleck, but in a 3-5-3 defense, how are you supposed to defend the bubble screen to #4? Does the OLB flex out to cover #4 in the slot (BS was in a 2x1 formation with single RB, #4 in the slot and the TE on that side)? Seemed like HHS stayed in the vanilla which put the OLB outside the TE but not all the way out to the slot. Simple pitch & catch to #4, WR blocks CB, TE blocks OLB and #4 is into the secondary without any difficulty.
