So, if defense wins championships...

Featured Replies

Bell Co has been just so much better than the teams they are playing that they play their JV in the 2nd half and still they aren't giving up any points.

It's crazy. :thumb:

That is the good and the bad of it. The JV team could probably be 6-4 or 7-3 playing the same record. Whitley, Tates Creek, KC and Rock would be the challenges.

Well then in that case if defense wins champingships.

The 2008 champions are:

1A Beechwood

2A Fort Campbell

3A Belfry

4A Bell Co.

5A Highlands

6A St. Xavier

In last week's BGP poll, these teams were ranked:

1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1

Sometimes #'s paint a pretty clear picture.

I know Bell's starters have not even dressed in the 2nd half for at least 2 games.

I think that is low class to not even come out on the field in uniform for the second half of the game. I know another coach that made that mistake and will never do it again. I understand pulling the starters, maybe even taking off helmets and shoulder pads, but not dressing at all in the second half is a metaphoric slap in the face to the opposing team. Great job Bell for achieving such a great honor. I would like to see Bell come up to 5A to renew that strong relationship that my beloved Bluebirds have with them. I would love for the Birds to get to play them again.

One of those games was a torrential downpour and about 40 degrees. I think the hot showers rather than stand in cold for a half was to the benefit of the players and team for rest of season. Besides in both of these games...it was running clock with over 50 pts. scored by half....second half did not last very long. It certainly was not done to disgrace opponent...but to allow early whirlpools, etc.

And there's not a bad chance that things will play out that way. However, the games don't always turn out like we anticipate.

I would love for Bell and Highlands to play in a game period. That seems to all ways be a great matchup.:thumb:

Low class is playing ineligable players IMO while knowing the outcome. :fire:

Bell County still has open dates on there schedule for next season. I am sure that could be arranged.:thumb:

Ive been watching those stats all season mcpapa...I wonder what the state record is for team defense in a single season?

And, yes...I do believe Defense wins championships.

No need to cast stones when Bell County was guilty of that as well in 1991.

This thread should get alot of action.

Totally different situation 3wishes. The kid from Bell was a back-up player that was a senior. Transfered to Bell as a Freshman and played 4 years for Bell. After the Bell/M'boro game his senior year the M'boro administration announced that he was enrolled at M'boro for a week and withdrew from school 5 years before making him a 5 year HS student. What was going to be his Freshman year at M'boro the player was involved in a motorcycle accident in the first week of school. Due to his injuries he could not go to school so the next year he entered Bell as a Freshman. B/C he was an incoming freshman and just 14 they thought he was free to play.

Bell forfeited the games played up until that point of the season and the player was no longer with the team. They did not get in injunction or fight the ruling they took that punishment and moved on. Bell went on to win the State Championship. It simply made the Bell/M'boro games that much more exciting the next few years. :thumb:

The topic is defense not any of this other stuff. We need to stick to the topic.

... here are the teams that gave up the fewest points during the 2008 regular season (10 games played, and unofficial, again):

1. Bell County 21

2. St. Xavier 38

3. Boyle County 72

4. Fort Campbell 75

5. Belfry 93

6. Beechwood 97

7. Trinity 99

8. Highlands 107

9. Grayson County 126

T10. Owensboro 130

T10. Raceland 130

These are rediculous numbers!! 21 pts/season!
